Lost all sound

For some reason, I have lost all sound on my PC. I have checked all of my connections, reviewed the "sounds and audio devices" in the control panel, and have speakers that are only a few months old. I have also checked the volume levels on any of the programs that I have used, such as i tunes, Quick Time, and WMV. Can anyone help???

Have you checked in audio properties? To do so, please follow the steps below:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Double click 'Sounds and Audio Devices'

Here, make sure that the 'mute' checkbox is cleared. Also check the 'Advanced' button under 'Device Volume'

 

Already looked at that and all was ok.

 

Add On Sound card? or Onboard Soundcard?

 

Onboard. It is a Sony Vaio system that is about 3 years old.

 

how about checking the drivers? uninstall then reinstall...

 

In the audio properties make sure is the onboard soundcard selected, ( I know you said everything is good in properties... just double checking) Does your comp have multiple input/output ports in the back? If so, is the jack in the right port and does it have digital output, try plugging it into different jacks. Also try going into control panel and selecting volume, then advanced. Then, make sure all volume selectors are turned up including wave Cd Etc. and all mutes are off or unchecked, (including windows media player and/or any other media programs you use).

If there is a mute button on your keyboard try tapping it after every change you make.

Is the Audio system a extra subwoofer / surround type or small oem speakers?
