    hey guys,
im in the process of buying a new computer, mainly for gaming but also for some general. heres what im most likely gonna get:

Asus A8N-SLI Premium 939 Pin Mobo
    2x Kingston 512MB DDR400 RAM PC3200 A grade
Microsoft Window XP Home OEM (ive still got 98SE )
Thermaltake Mambo Black (With Themaltake Silent 430 W PSU)
    AMD Athlon 64 Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ Socket 939
    Nvidia Geforce 7600GT 256mb
    LiteOn 16x DVDRW
Maxtor 200GB 8MB Cache 7200rpm IDE ATA133 HDD Hard Disk

and thats for $1200AUD... im not sure about USD, i think its about $900USD

430watts is way to low in my opinion you need atleast 500-550.

wow thats a pretty good setup for that price....

the only thing im skeptical about is the PSU. i have the same one and it may have killed my mobo, not sure tho. Its really quiet tho and has TONS of connectors, and i mean TONS, way too many than you could possibly use. Is that what comes with your case? If not, grab a different one, it should be over $50 (USD) otherwise you may get a crapper  Antec, PC Power and Cooling, and Coolermaster (i think) make good PSUs. Go for 500+ watts and SLI certified if you ever plan on goin SLI. Other than that, looks like a solid build. Add another 7600gt and you're good for at least a year or 2 for your graphics.

yeh thats the one that comes with the case, me myself was lookin at a diff power supply aswell, as for goin SLI with another 7600gt, as much as id love 2 i cant quite afford it atm. but as soon as i get myself a job (lives @ home with his mummy :) ) ill grab another to chuck in there

i find the 430w is enuff the problem is the 18a on the 12volt rail. you need around 22amps. otherwise a nice case. I ahve one but I am looking at a diff psu.

I think that PSU should be fine. My only recommendation would be go to with a slightly higher graphics card and a slower CPU. Maybe a 3700+ San Diego and spend the extra cash on a little better video card.

My friend has an eVGA 7600GT and it's pretty nice, but it won't allow for all settings and AA turned up on HL2/CS:S and my X800XL can do that...

    Just my 2 cents :D

    mobo: fine
    ram: fine
OS: try n upgrade to win xp pro
case: fine although change the PSU
    cpu: fine
    gfx: fine
    dvd-rw: try n go with benq dw1655
hdd: its better to go with a SATA HDD

    My 3 cents:

Asus A8N-SLI Premium 939 Pin Mobo
    - Very Nice Motherboard, generally high cost

    2x Kingston 512MB DDR400 RAM PC3200 A grade
    - Kingston is quality RAM, you shouldn't have to pay more than $95USD for the 2x512 after shipping.

Microsoft Window XP Home OEM (ive still got 98SE )
    - Home is fine... Just don't expect to network to anything complicated.

Thermaltake Mambo Black (With Themaltake Silent 430 W PSU)
    - Could stand to have somewhat higher wattage, but a reliable PSU

    AMD Athlon 64 Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ Socket 939
    - Good choice in processor for the price

    Nvidia Geforce 7600GT 256mb
    - Not bad at all, plays every game that I know of very well.

    LiteOn 16x DVDRW
    - LiteOn is a good brand, maybe think of paying the extra 15-20 dollars and getting the lightscribe ;)

Maxtor 200GB 8MB Cache 7200rpm IDE ATA133 HDD Hard Disk
-Plenty O' Space / not a lot of speed, but again, good for the cost.

Overall, nice rig: should run well with any game
