I cant get into my bios because my monitor doesn't power itself up out of standby until the windows screen and windows music play. This means i also can't get into safe mode if i need to. I had a nvidia geforce fx5200 256mb card, and that used to work, but i have had to change it for a nvidia geforce fx5500 256mb and now it doesn't. I have all the latest drivers for the card.

Could it be something to do with that i have my tv connected to the card aswell?

any help would be much appretiated as not being able to access the bios when i need to could cause me some probs in the future.

Yup if your card detecting the TV often the monitor will be disabled, cant you access your bios through the TV,have you tried unplugging the TV or monitor?

As soon as you boot up start hitting the DEL key or whatever one you need. That should get you in.

It will enter the bios when i push the del key, but i cant see it on screen because the monitor wont turn on.

for e.g hiptser. unplug your monitor from your computer and then boot and push the bios key. it will enter the bios, but you cant see it! thats what mines doing, but my monitor IS connected. it just stays in standby mode and wont power itself up until i get to desktop.

and i can see anything on the tv because as soon as i push the bios key, the video card drivers arn't loaded yet so i cant use the tv to view it so earlly on.

TV output is hardware you dont need video card drivers, you should be able to see everything including bios from the second you turn on your computer if your tv is set up right to receive the picture

The video card driver does as you say load at the point of the windows splash screen, but even if you didnt even have windows or any operating system on the computer the monitor should click out of standby at the point of turning the computer on

I would guess at loose connection but the exact timing of the monitor coming out of standby is strange,it sounds like the initial signal to the monitor is being missed and the driver is bringing the monitor to life

First I'd remove the card clean of the pins re-seat it,blow out and clean the monitor and video card connector and retry, then I'd try a different monitor,if still no luck it could be a problem with the power saving in the bios,a cmos reset should fix this put the jumper on pins 2-3 for 5 secs then back the 1-2 or remove the cmos battery for 5 secs and replace

    le me know :)

Just thought are these pci cards or agp,it could be that first boot display device is somehow set to agp or pci and therefore not initializing the card at post, hopefully a cmos reset will set it back to auto and detect your card

Well if worse comes to worse, do you have another old monitor lying around somewhere? Give it a shot, see what happens.

When you bootup your computer do you get a post beep (one Beep), or a warning beep (two or more beeps)?
