Lexmark scanner/printer/copier broken need help!

Well, iv had this problem for a while with my printer/scanner/copier. It is a Lexmark X83.

basicaly what its doing is when I plug the power in, I hear a weird humming sound like erererrrrerrrrrerrrerererr for like 40 seconds, then it quits and says "Unlock Scanner" on the LCD screen. I know I don't have the little red switch on the back locking it. And its not working at all. It wont let me print or anything! I think a gear is jammed or something. But I can't even seem to get the thing open. I know the basics of PC hardware and repairing PC's but I don't know how to fix printer/scanners/copiers!

oh and also when i power it off with the power button, it makes another weird noise and says "power down error"

 

I have the same model, but my problem is the cost of the cartridges!!! Both have a cost of 106.00 Dollars!!!! But, in my town are some on sale at 81.50 (same kind with few more ad ons) so, I Am going to buy me one. My friend, I do not know how is the situation in your area, but better buy a new one.

 

I would check the manual for a resolution to the error. However, if there are broken/damaged parts, you may be in a bit of trouble. Business class printers will allow you to replace parts such as the fuser, transfer/pick-up/feed rollers, etc, but alot of home class printers (especially multifunctions, ESPECIALLY Lexmarks) have these parts moulded into the case, so that you cannot replace them.

I hope this isn't the case for you.

Another suggestion would be to visit the fix your own printer forums. I realize they're no Major Geeks, but they are slightly more specialized in this area.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I tried to open it up again but I can't. I might as well force it open since its already broken anyway. Ill probibly just buy a new one from walmart. That way I wont have to hassel with it.

I visit that site (fixyourownprinter) and yes, they have solutions for your problem, check it. But, for my problem, I already bought a new one!!! Shop around, you can find better deals than in Wallmart!!!

 

I was just searching around, and read that lexmark "suggests" not to bother getting it fixed . cheaper to buy new.
This is not professional, but if all else fails and your ready to throw it....
Pick it up about two feet and drop it! Maybie something will unjam itself....Worked with my old Sony Walkman after i hurled it across the yard at a tree.
