Default Audio Problems

I have a movie that is an MPEG-4. which won't play in Quicktime, and won't be accepted by Toast(I am trying to burn it)

Even if I use FFmpegX to encode it differently, the pic will then play in quicktime, but I have no audio.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

veganjustice

It could be a codec issue. Have you tried playing in VLC Media Player.

It does play fine in VLC. But I want it burned onto a DVD.
After I encode it to a different format, Quicktime will then play it, but with no sound, VLC will lose the sound as well.

Any ideas?

thanks,

What's the source of this mp4 file, what codec does it use, did it come from a dvd?
Since I don't know which codec you are looking for, I can suggest the one or more of the following links:

DivX Doctor II 2.2

3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OS X

AAC Audio Codec

This is a good article:
Overview: Audio and Video Codecs

and the last one is a video help site:

I have DivX Doctor, and it wouldn't accept it either.

How can I find out what codec it uses?

Try Quicktime pro, once you open the file, go to the Window menu and slect show movie properties. You dont have to play the file. If you don't have the pro version, open the file with VLC and go to the window menu and select info.
Now have you tried using the 3ivx codecs? they are pretty much DivX codecs but a bit different in Flaver. Also try MPlayer
also what is the source of your file? did it come tivo? other PVR?
