Thats not True, Probably more of an Opinion, it's probably more dependant on an exact model compairson or even what the primary use will be

There is wide range of Qualty differances between different LCDs or even CRTs & between the two.

LCD requires much less desk space
I Love my LCD but took alot of time to get the color/brightness set the way I like it.
I use a Dual monitor set up one 19" LCD & the other is 21" CRT
My 21" CRT is Sweet the only problem it takes up half of my desktop & weighs about 100lbs

I prefer crt over lcd,I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to picture quality and that is all I care about crt's win handsdown,I dont care how bulky the monitor is,its cool n all seeing a picture come from such a thin screen as in lcds but it wears off, your desk ends up full of crap anyways

LCD's are gettting better but I think it will be a few more years before the picture quality exceeds that of CRT's and then a few more for them to be affordable to us regular folk :)

LCD only has great picture quality at its native resolution. A CRT will look good at any resolution up to it's max (or the graphics card's max.)

I've actually looked into this for work, so I have some figures when it comes to $$$$... attached, please find a total cost of ownership comparison between an LCD monitor and a CRT. I personally prefer CRTs, but this is something to consider regardless! Other things to consider are the fact that LCD's are easier on your eyes, which makes them elderly-friendly.

I think you need to look further than the raw power usage: you should factor in the change in cost in air conditioning in offices, the additional desk space that CRTs require (not cheap in major cities), the ease of manoeuverability (moving a 22" CRT is a 2 man job), safety, the ergonomics, etc.

Also there is some benefit with CRTs in the winter with less heating required. :)

You also need to consider the dead pixel problem with LCDs which can affect the rendering of an image - only a few of these and you may need to get a new LCD. You might want to take a look at: http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/data/63/I13406e2.pdf Class II is consumer grade kit.

Power usage alone won't necessarily have the required economic impact to justify LCD displays over CRTs. It is the sum of all the factors. It's worth noting that this technology is still in its infancy, comparitively speaking.

Costs are reducing and I suspect a future driving force will be energy consumption, and CRT inefficiency will sign their death warrant.

In a work environment there is a heavy emphasis on health and safety and regulations, etc. You have take these into account otherwise when someone injures themselves due to use of incorrect equipment or equipment poorly located then the company can be sued - expensive law suit.

Even the chairs, desks, lighting, wall colour, floor covering, etc. are also affected by regulation. Consequently, anything the has a health and safety risk means the employees can almost ask for anything they want just to mitigate against legal proceedings.

Any recommendations on a good brand?!?

I have almost had it with Korean Products and they have this very nasty habit of lasting just past their warranty expiry date and then dying. I am refering to a range of products from TV's to washing machines, etc etc. So anything NOT KOREAN, I am not rascist I won't buy Chinese made as well if I can help it basically I don't want to buy mass-produced rubbish.

When I got my Sony 21" GDM F520 CRT, I did a lot of comparisons. The color reproduction, gaming clarity and resolution options beat the LCD's hands down. Over the last two years I have continued to do comparisons and have seen the LCD's improve tremendously (even blacks come out black in some of the newest ones). Today with Vista coming, I am looking for a LCD with the new HD abilities (CRT's are on their way out production wise). The new Dell LCD's 24" (have seen in action) and the 30" really look to be an equal to the CRT's with all the other benefits of the LCD's previously mentioned.

If you're into gaming, and you must have LCD, look into the Viewsonic VX922. I'm very pleased with mine - it has a refresh rate of only 2 milliseconds, so there's no unsightly smearing. It will scale faithfully from 800x600 to 1280x1024. It's 19 inches so it fits nicely on a desktop and the desk can be up against the wall. For UPS users, you'll get extra backup power available. With a 19" CRT, I used to get 24 minutes of standby reported ( actual 17 minutes when playing a video game ) and now I get 43 minutes reported ( same game-Oblivion - 34 minutes actual ). I have been weened from the CRT.:)

I prefer CRT's myself but after awhile they can give u a headache even at 85hertz refersh rate. I dont think anybody mentioned this but if floresent light bother you then dont get an LCD, otherwise u will have bad headaches since there is an floresent light behind the pixels. I love my 2 CRT's sure they take up some room but i expereince better picture quality and i can be at whatever resolution i want, (well up to 1792x1344) and the picture is just as crisp. What it comes down to is price (CRT is cheaper), deskroom, picture quality, and if u have problems with floresent lights.

Most of the headache problems with the newer LCD's comes from users having their Contrast and Brightness maxed out. I had the same problem with my LCD when I first got it, but after putting them way down, everything is ok.

I have both a Sony Trinitron 20" CRT 4:3 and a BENQ FP202W 20" LCD 16:1 on my desk and I can say without a doubt that the BENQ surpasses the Sony by far. The Benq gets higher res 1680 x 1050, has all the features that the Sony has and it takes up 3 times less space on the desk. Plus it's digital. I paid the same for both monitors and when I get some extra cash I'm going to be going for another Benq.

I have 2 LCDs, one Sony and one on the Laptop( of course :) ), they both provide terrific headaches after only 2 hours of use. Of course, LCDs look better but the CRTs just seem easier on the eyes (plus I wear glasses).
