Hi everyone,
I have a Powerbook G4 and an IBM PC Pentium 4. I want to transfer a file from my PC, but it is over 4 GB and I don't have an external hard drive that my Mac can read. I have been told that I can set up my Network Preferences on both machines and transfer the file by connecting a firewire or ethernet cable between both computers. I followed the instructions at this website: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...31112091634533 ... but I have not been able to make it work. I start up, WS-FTP Pro on my PC, type in "10.0.0.1/", followed by the username for my Mac, but it always says "Connect Failure." Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? : |

I'm assuming OSX 10.3.3 or later and Win XP.
Are the on a LAN together? if so... go to Mac >> System Preferences >> Sharing >> Turn on Windows Sharing: Note the reflected address/Network Path of your Mac when you turn this on >> close Sys Pref. GO TO WinXP >> Open "My Network Places" >> Add Network Place >> click Next >> Highlight Choose Another Network Location >> click next >> type in address noted in above Sharing Step and enter here Ex. \\your mac's IP add\your home folder name >> click next. You should now be able to move the file(s) to your Mac. No need to use FTP Pro. Acktom |
