Stuck In Safe Mode

: Help. I'm stuck in safe mode from hell. I was able to do as Gateway said, I typed in msconfig, startup tab, unchecked boxes, restarted, then no more safe mode, but not able to do anything. Popup error stated windows errror would make file then to restart. So I rechecked boxes that stated windows, left program files unchecked, same problem. The only way I can get online is safe mode w/network under Administrator, then task mgr. I have Windows XP Home Edition. This all started after downloading service pack 2, which I've sinced uninstalled. On the safe mode screen, at the top it says Microsoft (R) (Build 2600.xpsp2_gdr 040517-1325 Service Pack 1. Should I do something with that? Please help. Thankyou

Would do a system restore to a point before the trouble occured ....in safe mode.

In safe mode, (assuming you have a os install cd) for to start / run / "Type"
sfc /scannow - without qoutes ....may have to run more than once.

: i DON'T KNOW WHAT AN OS CD IS. I HAVE A WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL INSTALL DISK. WILL IT WORK WITH THE HOME EDITION, IF SO, HOW DO I GET IT TO START?
