I got everything done, booted computer up, the MSI screen came on, and my friend was there, we were talking while the screen was on, then the screen went black and a blinking "_" symbol came up. That had never happened to me, so I rebooted the computer and now it will not post at all.

I did not read the text on the MSI screen because he was yapping at me, so I dont know if it throw an error or what.

I got googling and found numerous links on why a computer might not post.

It could really be anything. I read about fried CPU's, PSU's, bad ram, bad mobo etc... But this MSI board has some kinda of diagnostic lights on the usb bracket on the back, and according to them its hanging on the ram check could be bad ram, so I though this thread might be my answer.

The only difference is that I got a MSI boot screen but then it went away and the blinking cursor came up.

A link to the ram for reference, I went to see if it was a voltage thing, I did not see a volatge spec on newegg.

I do not belive its the psu but it could have something to do with that 8 pin thing.

What gets me is that it was working and then it clunked out.

I reseated the ram, no dice.

The screen does not even come on anymore, like it just sits on standby like its getting nothing from the computer at all.

    System Specs:

    PSU: Aspire/Apevia 500w
CPU: Intel Core 2 duo E6600
GPU: BFG tech 7950 GT oc 575 256mb
mobo: MSI nivida 650i sli platinum
    ram: aslinked

I have a IDE HD installed, I unplugged the power connector from it, booted the computer and my display turned on when I booted up the PC.

    It says:

BFG 7950GT 256mb, had bios version, that was it, then I walked into other room to type this, I walked back in computer was off, went to turn it on, nothing, no matter how many times I hit the power button it would not come on.

    I cannot reproduce that screen.

I unplugged and replugged it (PSU) back in and the computer came on, but then, again, nothing came up on the screen, so I plugged HD back in, booted computer, nothing, then, powered it down, unplugged it, reset cmos, unplugged HD, and cannot get it to reproduce the screen, it wont post again.

another thing I noticed is that:

When I turn PC on, cpu fan winds up, then down and stays at that speed,

    Another note:

Mobo has one of those 8 pin mobo connectors instead of the normal 4, made some posts on other forums, they said as long as I am not running SLI it should be fine, it came from factory with a piece of plastic blocking 4 of the 8 slots, they said that was to let someone who only had P4 connector know what side was the ground.

Sorry if post is confusing, I am totally stumped, this has got me all outta wack, have built 4 computer before, never have ever had any problems posting or installing os, its usually drivers that get me.

If the diagnostic LEDs say it's a RAM problem, that is probably what it is. If you have multiple sticks, try each combination. Try each stick in each slot, 1 at a time. And also try it without any sticks of RAM and see if the LEDs change. If nothing different happens, try the RAM in another computer, if you have access to one. And also try your friends RAM in your PC, if it's compatible.

Also, the link you posted for your RAM says it is 2.1V. If you click the Specifications tab, it's right there. Not sure if this is the problem or not.

Thanks for the response, I did try the ram in different slots, then each stick on its own, no luck. What I meant by specs was the mobo specs for ram, some people were saying that that voltage was to much for some motherboards because of BIOS issues.

I do not have any DDR2-800 ram, all my pcs in my house are AMD, this is my first intel build (go-figure lol), I did not think to try without ram in the PC to see if the lights would change, but I think they will stay the same because it says it sticks on that configuration if the ram is bad or missing, so the might not help.

I cannot try until tomorrow, I have been messing with this computer (not this one, but the one im building lol) for the past 6 hours, cant stand to look at it.

I have been thinking in my head, trying to troubleshoot, because so far according ot everyone else, I need a new mobo because thats fried or defective, a new psu because the PC does not have that 8 pin connector and the psu is not a 200 one, etc... so before I RMA, or get a new PSU I want to be sure what it is, because at this point it could be anything.

I will try the ram once more and reply, thanks.
