Compaq Armada 7770DMT Live CD Damn Small Linux 3.4
I bought this laptop without an OS on purpose, so that I can try some form of Linux.

The initial instructions on that CD tell me to type in the command, I believe it is ex.hdsa2 and then to go from there.

But where do you type that command? Or perhaps, How do you go about typing in any command? confused

On most of those cd's you put it in your cd drive and then reboot your computer. DSL is one you can use from the cd or install to your HDD. Your computer MUST be set to boot from the cd...

If it does; you wait for DSL to configure your hardware, if it can and the computer will run linux automatically.

Once it boots an introduction screen will appear, it has several options..but you want to look for the hard drive install, then just follow the directions.

Should go well for you, some people in their 80's and more are just starting to use computers, and some teens put me to shame with sheir skills.

Your not going to hurt anything and a whole new world awaits you, have phun.:wave

Okay - I get to the part where I am given instructions on how to install to the hard drive.
    Instruction:
    type in cfdisk(ex.hda2)
    And it comes back
    no such command

    Then I try the command
    install
    No such command.
I am missing something here. Something very simple.
Since I have no operating system - how do I tell my computer to boot from a CD?

Good going!! That wasn't all that hard...right.

DSL should do just about anything you need to do on a computer, and more.
A download of DSL is only 50 +- megs...for a OS! Best thing is that it works.
You can even turn it into a full Debian system, just too cool huh?

Congrats Tommy for sticking it out. :D

    You guys are too kind.
Tell me, what do you put in after "Box sign in?" when you have forgotten your user name and password?

Tommy put your $1.95 cd back in and do it all again, only this time write your info down.

Pretty soon you will be a DSL install wizard.

Will check for your next report later, good luck Tommy.;)
