    "Becks"
The debut is over. I am a fan of soccer only to a point.
But I have to admit when he took the field I was excited. I hope a better understanding of the game will be adopted by us Yanks due to his arrival.
Now since he has made the debut I hope Sports Center will stop playing that commercial every 5 minutes.

Is everyone across the pond jealous now that we have him?

I find it a complete complement that David Beckham followed me over to the Pacific coast LOL

He'll help MLS draw a lot more than they have been, but also Chicago getting Blanco from Mexican club America will really draw in the fans he's a legitimate scoring machine and the Fire need goals like crazy. I hope this lays to rest the opinions of MLS as a bush league I enjoy watching the great game at all levels.

I have never worked out why there is such a fuss made over an over-rated average footballer.?

Not that I would objectify anyone. LOL

I hope he stays over there changes his nationality and no longer captains England

He plays midfield he isnt a scorer hes a passer 'assister' unless you have great players who can put it in the back of the net he's just another player, every so often he'll score a free kick from the edge of the penalty box and everyone will scream that was amazing he's worth the money then you'll check your place in the league and and the price you have just payed for your ticket and cry :D

    Then theres his wife :guns

I had no idea his wife was one of the spice girls. To be honest, I really don't know anything about him or her (other than she was from a group from about 10 years ago). I just saw a blurb on yahoo about them and how they just want to 'live normal lives' or something. If that's true, they will probably get what they want since we have more than enough of our own celebs crying for attention over here and pro soccer really isn't a huge sport in the US.

Yeh me too thats why when I move countries I phone the paparazzi to let them know I'm at the airport then go on as get on as many chat shows as possible in two days :D

His wife Victoria Beckham was the one from the spice girls who looked good as she cant sing or dance as the others were 'gifted' :D

Is he over rated? Most likely. But you can't have a soft midfield.
I can see tension between he and Landon Donovan brewing.
Beckham has not even fully practiced with the team and the News crew are talking Team Captain. That is a slap in the face to players round the world honestly.
After the game the Chelsea players seemed more pleased and friendly with him then his own team mates.

Here is the commercial since you all cross the way probably haven't seen it. We sure have over here!!!!!!

At least when Gretsky(hockey) went to LA with all the hoopla that goes with this in LA, he was a real superstar and gave hockey a good kick start in the US. Is 'Becks' worth the $250M for the free publicity, I don't know but they could have gotten Zidane for a lot cheaper. WWF meets the soccer world.:D

LOL...hockey didn't need a kick start in the US. It's been here and has been big for a very long time. I'm from Philly and we've been a huge hockey city for a long long time. Well before Gretsky. It'll take more than Beckman to make soccer a big sport here, so I'm thinking he'll fade from site pretty quickly unless he does something else.

I agree, especially with Fred Shero and the Broadstreet Bullies in Philly, or Boston, Chicago etc. as the original six or even twelve, but in many markets, hockey is hardly as big as football or basketball and gets little attention in the media.

Oh BTW, I have to thank Fred Shero for developing the clutch and grab system of play to overcome the teams with the scorers. :( It really changed the game to the point that I hardly watch at all anymore.

If he is more than 7 times the player than Landon Donovan is, he must be a bargain :D

He does admit he is a limited role player. They try to throw Pele coming to America at him ("Becks") and he quickly dismisses the thought of being compared to Pele.
At least we can rest assured that if he doesn't live up to the hype, sports fans can be brutal in their abandonment of the love.
Then again L.A. is a different breed of sports fan. They will most likely immortalize he and his wife as long as they are here.

Funny how the coaches of Manchester United, Real Madrid and England don't have the soccer savvy of the posters on this thread...;)

No doubt from my end he's a great player I just dont want him to captain England anymore or take all of our free kicks,he puts too much pressure on himself and I dont think he has the self belief 'eye of the tiger' of the great players

Your right though my opinion isnt worth anything I dont even follow club football
