    As some of you know, I use SlickRun (my most used program) to navigate my way around my PC, instead of using Icons or Shortcuts appearing (and wasting space) on my Desktop.

    SlickRun is available at http://www.bayden.com/SlickRun/

    It is so much more an efficient a way to use a PC that I inwardly curse to myself when forced to use other peoples PC's when trying to assist in fixing, or tuning, their computers.
    I usually am able to get them to allow me to load it onto their PC, even if they don't want to use it initially.

    To get to the point of this thread, SlickRun does not have the option of printing out their MagicWords, :( and I'd like to print out my MagicWords.

    One complete record is actually 8 lines, as per:

    [2x-explorer]
    Filename="c:\Keepers\2X Explorer\2xExplorer.exe"
    Path=""
    Params=""
    Notes="Like the old XTree Gold"
    GUID={7FF5C11C-B420-4F66-9CAD-456262B0D96F}
    StartMode=3
    UseRunAs=0

    What I would like is a batch file or whatever, that would read my entire slickrun.txt file (60kb in size) and convert the file into individual records of 8 columns wide, into a *.csv, or *.xls file, or whatever, so I can import it into Office 2000 (excel 2000) and print it out.

    Listed below are 3 records taken from my latest database of MagicWords, as an example.
    Each record consists of 8 lines, starting with the MagicWord, eg., [2x-explorer] and ends with UseRunAs=0 (or appropriate number)
    There are no spaces in between records.

    3 MagicWords shown, of
    [2x-explorer] ----(runs a program like the old Xtree Gold)
    [a2] ----(runs the program A Squared)
    and [aaron-roster] ----(That runs an Excel spreadsheet for #2 son's working hours)

    [2x-explorer]
    Filename="c:\Keepers\2X Explorer\2xExplorer.exe"
    Path=""
    Params=""
    Notes="Like the old XTree Gold"
    GUID={7FF5C11C-B420-4F66-9CAD-456262B0D96F}
    StartMode=3
    UseRunAs=0
    [a2]
    Filename="c:\Keepers\a-squared Free\a2free.exe"
    Path=""
    Params=""
    Notes="A2 program"
    GUID={68A7D9F2-D546-4E5A-9282-A90A3BABA552}
    StartMode=5
    UseRunAs=0
    [aaron-roster]
    Filename="c:\documents and settings\barry\my documents\aaron's Roster.xls"
    Path=""
    Params=""
    Notes=""
    GUID={42500A39-1B30-4A2F-A84D-DDE8C4AB0BB4}
    StartMode=5
    UseRunAs=0

    If anyone can provide a program that will read my *.txt file and convert it
    to Excel readable (or importable), I would be very grateful.

    PS: Either PM me, or reply through here. Your choice. :)

    I haven't used this, but it looks like it'll work. The standard version is free, the Pro version is $29. Check it out and post your results. I'm sure there's other folks who'd be interested ;)

    http://www.download.com/OmniFormat/3000-10743_4-10544489.html?tag=lst-0-2 Here's another one I found that should do the job. It has VERY mixed reviews, so be sure to research it a bit first. Personally, I'd go with the first link above, or the one below.... I'm just trying to be thourough!

    And one more! I'm not sure if this is free, or a free trial, but it looks good!

    Good luck, and, again, please post your results!!!

    If each record is exactly 8 lines long, can you not simply set Word to a page length of 8 lines?

    Do all the records end in UseRunAs=0?

    studiot, all records are 8 lines long and end in "UseRunAs=n".
    I'm after Excel dump so I can manipulate the output, then print it. ;), rather than just convert it to Word *.doc

    @hopperdave@ Thanks for links. :cool Bazza

    I haven't had time to do more than prove this proceedure on a simple example, but it works.

    1) in Word or do a find and replace of userunas=0 to userunas=0, (comma)

    2) save the file as a .txt file

    3) open it in notepad and save it as a .csv file, using all files

    4) open the .csv file in excel - your stuff will be neatly separated into cells.

    @studiot and hopperdave@

    Thanks guys, I tried 2 methods, one by studiot and 1 of the programs listed.

    I must be doing something wrong as all I get is around 2,500 entries in one column (A1-A2500) and not 330 entries from A1-H1, and 330 rows deep.

    Any bright ideas on what I am doing wrong? The comma delimiter doesn't seem to be working, I guess. confused confused Bazza

    That's what I would expect from my quick and dirty method. I had no time to refine it. Just so long as each cell holds the right content, you can organise the spreadsheet to suit with copy/cut/paste. That would be quicker than me writing a macro or VBA script to do this. I assume you only need to do it once.

    Of course any macro Geeks should chip in here.

    Final point you can force Word to generate the .csv file by enclosing in littorals i.e. type "thing.csv" into the save box. Word will not then make it a doc file.

    I can't really offer any help.... I've never used the apps I linked to, I just searched 'em out to help you out.... If you're using Exportizer, I'm pretty sure they have support forums or a help page...... sorry I can't be of more help :( but, good luck!!

    Thanks studiot and hopperdave. :)

    I would appreciate a VBA script as it will be used more than once.
    Every so often I review my MagicWord list and cull MagicWords (and programs) that I rarely use.
    Thanks again, guys. :major Bazza
