Can't log in to Win XP Pro

    For the pst two days I haven't been able to log into my pc. The OS boots normally but once i log into my account or any of the otehr accounts the wallpaper shows up for a couple of seconds n after that it logs off.

    My PC is custom built it

    XP Pro
    AMD Seprom 2200 1.5 GHZ
    512 RAM

    I have no XP repair disk

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Have you tried booting in safe mode and logging in to any accounts?

    Does the same thing happen?

    You are probably going to need and bootable copy of Windows XP. Without it, you may not be able to fix this.

    Well, i happen to have smaller sibling who got into the pc and put a password on the setup, and i have no way of getting into setup any longer, do u know any other way to boot in safemode?

    What do you mean a password on the setup? Do you mean that you only have one user account named Administrator and it is password protected and you do not know what it is and thus cannot login in safe boot mode?

    I mean to say that hen the pc is booting up,before the OS loads, when i press F8 or del before i can go into the setup to allow me to change everything it asks for a password that i do not know. The administrator pasword i know it but its not the same for the setup. The administrator account is my account and i know the password to it

    We don't need you to go into the BIOS setup. You just need to boot in safe mode. Try using the MSconfig method given in the link in the READ ME.

    I can't log in into any of the accounts and the only way that i know od entering msconfig is while being logged on to one of the accounts

    But have you tried safe boot mode or not?


    If you still cannot get any further we cannot help you in this forum. You have a few alternatives you can try (listed below) but this are not topics for the Malware Forum.

    2. a rebuild. See this: http://www.informationweek.com/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=189400897
    3. Format and reinstall
    You will need a copy of your Windows XP CD for any of the above. If you don't have one, you will need to buy one.

    how do you boot in safe mode? If its by pressing F8 i cant do that
