    I have 2 939 pin motherboards:
Jetway 939GT4L-G-VC NF4 SLI ( Hey, it's working great for me).
    ECS K8T890-A VER:1.0A (untried yet)
Both can use an Athlon dual core cpu, but I can not find any reference to my motherboards combatibilty concerning opterons.
I would like to try my hand at some overclocking and I like the 2mb cache the opteron Have. Plus I've read how well they seem to oc. I don't want to find out the hard way that it won't work.

No,you can't run Opteron, only Athlon 64 is the limit for both mobos.

Actually, I have an opteron 170 running just fine on my motherboard. Uhm, what was that about not working?? Now I'm going to see about overclocking it.

I guess sometimes the only way to find out if something works is just to try it.

    WRONG!
You should Keep Quiet "Goran" about what you know nothing about!

At mcduke, you should be fine running a socket 939 Opteron on a socket 939 MOBO :major
Your 170 should do 2.7 or 2.8GHz with ease, if your lucky and some know how ya might pull off 3GHz

Officially there is no MOBO other than Server MOBO's that can run Opteron's
Unofficially as far as I know, all 939 mobos can run 939 Opterons
Some MOBO's may need or have BIOS update's to add support for Dual core or Opterons & some folks have Modded BIOS for additional support

I run Opterons on an Asus A8N Sli Prem & a DFI Ultra D (These Opterons kick Butt)
Some OC better than others Steppings can be important, your choice of memory can also limit your OC abilities
A good quality PSU is also key to nice stable OC's

Thanks for the info ASUS ! I'm kinda new at the OC thing. Unfortunately, the memeory I'm using is two 1gb simpletech ddr400 sticks and I'm not sure how they will handle the oc.

Well, I'm a dismal failure at overclocking my opteron 170. I'm using ntune and couldn't get above 2.2 (2.0 is the default). That's with the memory (ddr400) set in bios to 333. That way I would be able to set the fsb atleast to 240 with no problems and the memory would be just at the ddr400 speed, but no such luck.
I've found out the I can set the fsb to 210 so the opteron runs at 2.1ghz (thats with the memory set at normal ddr400 in bios, so the memory was running at 420 with no problems at all).
Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I thought I would be able to get this cpu at 2.5 atleast (with stock voltage and cooling). Does this mean I have to up the voltage alittle??
