    Good afternoon gentlemen,

The past month has been real horrid for me. My internet has been disconnecting and slowing down once a week or so. It first started last month when my internet would not connect for a full day. My isp sent me a new modem with overnight shipping by fed ex, but by the time it got here my internet was fine so I had no use for the new modem. My internet has been disconnecting every week or so since than for a few hours or just slowing down. All this while just browsing through my email or simple webpages [ie: during sessions of no downloading/uploading whatsoever]. Anyways last Wednesday was the final straw...

My internet went out for the entire day and would not connect. I tried the spare modem I had and it still didn't work. I than tried to delete my network connection and create a new one but nothing worked. The funny thing is the modem lights that are supposed to be lit when the modem is fine were all on, except for the "activity light" that blinks when you surf. I called my isp and they acted like fools and blamed it on my computer. Sure I was going to believe them when I scan my pc every two darn days! I told them I tried the spare modem I still had and I even tried another hard drive I have with XP pro on it. That hard drive always works when I have problems. & the net wouldn't connect on that one! So I knew for a fact it wasn't my pc. In the end I called them 3 different days with no working internet and on the last day I finally told them that I switched phone companies but the line is still the same phone number and it's still a landline. They said that they would open up a ticket with my phone company [I'm on high speed dsl], and that they would ask the phone company to check the circuitry at the mother station downtown or something [and that it would take up to five days for the phone company to do so]. They mentioned that the new cheaper phone company I switched to relays the phone signal for my net through a different phone company or something like that, and that the new phone company I'm on is probably the cause since I switched to it about the same time the problems with the net started happening. Well after my last call with them [when they said they were going to contact my phone company] my net started working again a couple hours later! But for some reason it seems a bit slower than usual... Fast but slower... I compared online speed tests to past speed tests and they come up short by 15% or so.

Anyways I came here just in case to do the "read me and run first" and scan my entire pc with all your methods. I know my pc can't be at fault for the net going bizzerk, it's probably something wrong with the phone company screwing up like my isp thinks. But anyways the scanners from your sticky thread did find a lot of crap on my pc and deleted all of what it found except for one thing on panda scanner. i couldn't believe all the stuff the scanners found. This is my short summary of my scans:

    CC Cleaner: cleaned up all
    Spybot: found nothing
    Couterspy: found nothing
Bitdefender: found a lot stuff and deleted it all
Panda: found one thing it didn't delete

Anyways since the infections on my pc probably had nothing to do with my net going bizzerk [since the net wouldn't work on the spare drive or other modem], it was still a good idea I came here to do your scans because I was infected with crap I didn't know about!!!! So now that I know I hope you all look at my logs attached to the following messages and let me know if I'm in the clear of bad stuff on my pc or whanot and what I need to do.

    Thanks!!!

Actually your problems did not sound like malware at all. Malware would not be so intermittant. Your logs affirm my assumption. They are clean, but I have a few things for you to do.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

None of the above is related to your problem nor are they malware. They are just things you need to do!

Thank you for replying back so fast Chaslang but I don't understand why you want me to use that application to remove msn messenger. I use msn messenger everyday and need it to speak with my family in my country. What exactly is the application for and why do I need to do this? Please let me know... If it is to remove msn off my system can I install it back on after from www.msn.com with the current version? ?? I really don't understand what your app is for and why I need to run it.

Oh by the way I just read the description for the app and it says it's to disable something and optionally remove msn messenger. So I don't know what you want me to do exactly since it's used for more than one thing.... Well at least that's what I understand by it's description.

That's not MSN Messenger being removed. It is Windows Messenger which is a frequent cause of popups. What I'm addressing is this:

    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

I repeat, it says Windows Messenger not MSN Messenger.

Thank you for your help I have removed everything you said I should and updated my Java program. It's a good thing I came on here to scan all my files even though I had no idea I had so many infections. Thank you for your help and as far as my internet problem goes... Well I just hope my isp takes care of that asap.

I'd like to ask you one last question:

You never mentioned anything about the one file Panda scan found that it couldn't delete. Is it a problem or not? If so let me know how to clean or remove it.

No cookies are not problems as you will read about in the link given in my final instructions below.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    2. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    3. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you for your help I just deleted all restore points and am starting fresh. One question... I will keep Ccleaner on my pc but I have to ask this...

I know you say you should always just run the windows tab part of the program to clean the garbage on my pc. But during it's cleaning process does it clean IE only or also Mozilla Firefox stuff? Because I don't use IE I use Firefox. I always find myself using Ccleaner and than manually going to clean firefox stuff myself in the broswer because I don't know if CCleaner cleans it too. Please reply.

    You're welcome.
If you look at the Applications tab you will see that it removes stuff from FireFox and many other applications too. You should even notice these things in the log it shows when you use it. ;)

    Surf safely!
