Accidently Dropped My HDD

I have accidently dropped my HDD when I was uninstalling it from another computer. Now, it has problems writing. Also, when I initially installed the HDD in my primary computer, it just kept going to the black choice screen.

You know the one I mean. It gives you choices to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe mode with Networking, etc...

Even after a few times attempting to start Windows, the HDD just clicks and goes back to the beginning, asking me the same things that I have mentioned above. I feel that I may have given it some permanent damage and need another one.

If I can salvage this HDD, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

Depending on the drop, it is very likely that you have a physical damage in the drive since it is also clicking and all, that is definitely not a good sign.

I would not take the data loss risk and just get a new drive.

Thanks Turcoloco. I appreciate the help. I hope that maybe you can help with a couple of other things. 1. I have another 80Gb Hard Drive that I have not used in a while because a Big Blue screen pops up and says that it has stopped initiating Windows because there is an NTFS.SYS error. It also tells me to disable my Disk Defragment, Anti Virus Protection, etc.. How can I disable anything if it won't let me into Windows in the 1st place?

    2. I am buying a X1650 Pro 512Mb Graphics Card to run well with Windows Vista. Can you please comment and give me your professional opinion please.

    Thanks heaps

I agree with the posts it's a safebet that you'll have to replace the drive, and on my own opinion you might want to stay away from vista for about a year until they get most of the bugs fixed.;)

God knows what was installed on it or what happened to that installation so it'd be wise to do a clean install (re-part/re-format).
I personally do not bother with boot corruption in Windows any more, less time to do a fresh install and also a lot more stable. Of course if there is a need to recover any data from that drive, I'd slave it to a working system to extract the data first.

I doubt any device at this point in time is likely to run 'that' well with Vista and since I do not yet use Vista I can't comment on if or any other card would run well on Vista. I'd definitely do extensive search on different sites to see what type of problems or feedback has been reported by the owner of the X model card before actually committing to it.

I totally agree, when it comes to Windows, bare minimum requirement is Service Pack 1 but preferred is Service Pack 2 before you should consider a switch to that OS. For that matter and also the fact that XP Pro does everything I need and from what I have seen much better than Vista can at this time so I am sticking with XP Pro for now. I don't upgrade unless the current version is not giving me what I need, whatever that might be, software compatibility, support for a hw device driver...whatever that would make the upgrade worth the potential headaches. ;)

I like vista personally. It does fine for my needs (gaming mainly) and music etc... the 1650 will handle vista no problem :p As for the 80 gig if you do try to remove files from it make sure your a/v is up to date (just in case)

Hello all that have helped me. I am sorry that it has taken me a while to respond. Umm, firstly, I had to take the X1650 Pro back to the shops. It kept crashing so I bought an Nvidia 7600 256Mb and works well with Vista.

I bought a new hard drive, all good there.

Thanks to all that replied to my posts.
