Rikky once again Bro you have found a real Gem. Best hour and fifteen minutes spent, glad to see all the data that I have known put into one documentary.

    Thanks Again

the environmentalist issue is not just with global warming per se, but with the fact that man is the most destructive, selfish, wastefull, negative presence on this planet. i have to believe that such total disregard for all things except money and power has to have consequences. we cannot continue to live in the ignorance of 'I'm alright jack'. jm2c aloha as always

Sorry laurieB, but that is not a rational statement, it might be your emotional feeling, and that you are entitled too. But please do not lump as all as some thoughtless beasts, for humankind is the only "Animal" that has to some extent evolved and used it's brain to shape it's world. That we have made mistakes, is a given, but at least we are trying, and to blame humankind for anything and everything is wrong, in my opinion anyway.

Thanks for that. I was reluctant to belive the hype anyway, and for the last year I've doubted the validity of the argument that global warming was man made. It confirmed the suspicions that I've had for a while now. Nice to see it so clearly in one program.

I might go out later on and burn a couple of hundred tyres to celebrate. :)

Any conspiracy theories as to why this link is no longer functional?

I agree, the oceans are almost empty, 'modern' farming is killing the ecology of the land where it's used, we are polluting our only backyard by crapping in it, our natural resources are dwindling while the population is growing at an alarming rate and yet the businesses keep telling us that we need all this extra crap, buy, buy, buy. Consume more etc. Let's use up everything now because I want it, and not need it. Who knows about global warming but using 100's of millions of years of stored solar energy in a few short centuries has to be affecting the planet. I'll stop here as I tend to rant about these issues.

    Sorry Rikky,
I was too late to catch the film. It's gone!
I guess the horrible truth is that if you want to use antibiotics (etc.), you've got to use birth control. If you don't want to use birth control, you don't need to bother with modern medicine but can just rely on natural birth control mechanisms like diseases, wars, etc. We've wanted to have our cake and eat it too, for too long, and now it's catching up with us. Of course, logic seems never to have been the main guidance system in human decision-making processes.

For those with an OPEN MIND

The main thrust of the film is that Global Warming may well be happening, but that it is not caused by Mankind. The carbon dioxide film by A. G. is at best disingenuous and at worst ..... In fact the change in carbon dioxide measurably comes after the change in temperature by several hundred years.

The suggested source is the increased solar output; also a proven phenomenon.

Interestingly in the last few weeks, astronomers/astrophysicists studying Mars have shown that Mars is also experiencing global warming. I believe it was NASA originally, but I read about it in the the 'Telegraph'.

So wearing a hair shirt about the subject is counterproductive as it diverts attention from the true cause and any solution we may have to implement.

That said, as an engineer, I hate waste and wasteful ways of going about things.

Its funny the new voltswagan golf ad has just been on TV "When was the last time you just went for a drive?" is the catchphrase, huh? we're not allowed to anymore:DGermany's supposed to to be one of the big global warming leaders

The catchphrase should be "when was the last time you sat in your car and enjoyed it" :D

I've done a little research myself and have come to a conclusion that more than likely global warming is not man made. One little fact that I discovered was the fact that the planet Mars is also having a global warming trend. Last time I checked they're no humans on that planet!:D

I've got 2 artic loads you can have if you want them. I'll even deliver them anywhere in the country and pay for the petrol to start the fire with, and it'll still be cheaper than paying £1 a tyre to get rid of them the 'official' way. ;)

    Global warming = big business.

Not sure where it is available, but you may want to check which version you are interested in purchasing
As far as I know they are up to version 4 already

You may find it in the comedy section at your local video store

If humans really were causing global warming, I think governments would take it a lot more seriously than they actually do, and there would be massive restrictions on industry, not just the 'token gesture' environmental taxes that happen now. The fact that so many have fallen for the hype is comedy value in itself.

I disagree, short term economic prosperity is far more important than long term environmental damage in governments eyes, first and foremost you have to keep your people fed and if possible in work, keeping the people from revolting due to ecomomic reasons is the government of todays problem, keeping the people from revolting due to enviromental concerns is the next governments problem

If millions of healthy men and women were wandering the streets without work and wondering how they are gonna pay for the over inflated carbon neutral food to feed thier familys I doubt anyone would care what happens to the enviroment anymore and would vote in a government who wanted to increase the amount of CO2 released to boost the economy

Of course Geeks may prefer the Michael Crighton (Jurassic Park) explanation.

In his book 'State of Fear' he propounds the interesting theory (set as an adventure novel) that
'Big Government' needs a bogeyman to keep the population pliant and co- operative and that GW is the current bogey.

He backs this with an impressive list of Climatological/meteoroligical references to real measurements. Most of these are available on the net and cover the whole globe.

Well i certainly think that's part of it, but they have much better scare tactics atm (i.e. terroism) to keep us folks in check.

The thing about this type of feeling is that corporate types will look to profit off of ANY turn of events. There's money to be made EITHER way this debate goes.

    Need I mention oil companies?

    Another figure.

the mass of the Earth is 6x10^24 Kg.

Divide this by the number of people to get 10^15 kg or 10^12 Tonnes.

Could you shovel 1000,000,000,000 Tons of :crap in your lifetime? ( a thousand billion)

If we believe there were "ice ages", then global warming has been ongoing since that time. If we believe there were multiple ice ages, then the planet both warms itself and cools itself in a periodic fashion, without the the necessity of mankind. As far as carbon dioxide goes( the villain of the piece), it seems to be a very rare gas indeed. To quote Encarta "The principal constituents of the atmosphere of Earth are nitrogen (78 percent) and oxygen (21 percent). The atmospheric gases in the remaining 1 percent are argon (0.9 percent), carbon dioxide (0.03 percent), varying amounts of water vapor, and trace amounts of hydrogen, ozone, methane, carbon monoxide, helium, neon, krypton, and xenon."

Not sure what your point is :confused

Chances are that we can only have a major effect on the surface of the planet and the atmosphere, the majority of the earths mass is still unreachable, for now ;)

    That is the whole point.
The lower the existing amount, the lower the amount required to double it

Ever recorded always gets me. As old as earth is just how accurately have we been able to record anything and for how long. This all makes for selling energy efficient anything.
I love the one where BP opened up the first ever GREEN Gas Station. People are flocking in by the hoards, of course it is no different from any other gas station but when things change they are ready. Good Grief

They appear strangely (refreshingly) honest about the shortfalls of the 'green' gas station, but at least they are trying :)

    http://www.bp.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=2223&contentId=7028330

It is more than likely that their main aim is to capture a larger market share, but as in a lot of things the effect is more important than the cause
