I am new here so if this is posted in the wrong thread please forgive and tell where I should post. Thanks.

I changed the desktop image last week. Now when computer boots up I get the error , actskn43.ocx or 1 of its dependencies not correctly registered or file is missing or invalid.

I went to 2 free downloads and neither worked. Can someone offer some assistance?
    Thank You.

If the file is on your computer, in the Windows\system32-directory I think, enter this at the commandline (Start>Run): regsvr32.exe actskn43.ocx

This should at least register it correctly.

a search found it but when inputed as requested I get "Load Library(actskn43.ocx)failed-The specific module could not be found" error message.

A quick Yahoo search produced many results suggesting the file in question is spyware related; primarily associated with a rogue anti-spyware program called "SpyReaper" or Trojan.IED.... it could be that a recent malware scan removed the file 'actskn43.ocx' but not the program that is trying to "call" that file. You may want to visit the malware removal forum and be sure the read the "READ ME FIRST....." sitcky. At the very least, a complete scan with updated anti-virus and anti-spyware is highly recommended.... good luck!

BTW- Files with '.ocx' as an extension are ActiveX components. Sometimes they're OK (like Adobe's Flash Player or Microsoft's Windows Update plug-in), many times they're not....

Thanks hopperdave2000. I have Norton AntiVirus and SpyDoctor already and they don't find a problem.

In which way did you change the desktop image? Did you download the image or take one of the existing ones in your desktop options?

If you are able to, go back to a restore point from before the time you changed the image and see if the problem persists.

If registering the file failed to work then you are almost certainly missing one or more dll files on which it is dependent (which was implied by your original error message). But as to which dll files that could be very tricky to determine but if you download this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Process_Monitor_d5553.html
and run it allowing it to log what is happening when you attempt the file registration again I think it will tell you the DLL it is missing.
