the creaters of ccleaner are bringing out a disk defrager soon

If it is small and fast like they claim. It will get a lot of attention.
As widely used as CCleaner is people will probably use it simply out of loyalty to CCleaner.

Ccleaner is *great* software, and a defragger from them ought to be very interesting. But unless it's free and/or does an outstanding job, it may not do so well since, as you said, the market is already crowded with freeware and commercial defraggers.

I don't think it will have much of an impact on the big players e.g. Diskeeper who have a very strong presence in the enterprise storage side of things as well as the desktop user segment. Diskeeper's desktop versions with features like automatic defrag, low resource utilization algorithm etc have been honed over many years of R&D and it's difficult to see any challenge to their position from a newcomer. I suspect Ccleaner will be targeting the desktop segment and not enterprise with this new product. In anycase, it ought to be interesting and something to look forward to.

Interesting but they will have to go some to beat O&O.

Forgive my undoubted ignorance but what's wrong with using Windows own defragmenter?

For me it comes down to time. The ones mentioned here and many others simply work faster. A LOT faster.

As result of a partnership back in the '90s, Windows defragmenter is made by the same company that makes Diskkeeper, Executive Software. Basically it's a watered down version of Diskeeper.

Folks complain of the Windows defragmenter being slow and rightly so. But, if the default defrag. is used on a regular basis, say once a month for most users, once a week if one installs a lot of software or does a lot of file transfers, then the drefrag process won't take as long as it would if one lets the HDD get extremely fragmented.

Windows defragmenter can't defrag the Page File or MFT, but I don't know of any freeware defragmenter that does.

All in all, the Windows defragmenter does a decent job but could use a lot of improvement. Unfortunately, the Windows defragmenter suffers from neglect.

Sounds great, I hope it's fast :D. Lately I've started to defrag once a day and it takes a solid 1-4 minuets. Oh hey, I got a message saying theres a newer version of CCleaner, Should I upgrade?
