Unable to run anything with .exe extension

I know I may be in the wrong area, but before I go to software support I figured I would ask here. My son was playing a game and the system hung. He powered of the computer and since then I have not been able to run any programs unless I am in safe mode. I ran all the scans and found very little. I have Ad-aware SE plus and the ad-watcher logged some where around 3500 registration changes before I could shut off the computer. I have tried to restore from a point over a week ago and on first boot it looks good, but then the registry changes begin and I can no longer open anything. I had to run all programs from safe mode so not sure how much help they will be.

 

Here are a few more. Also I tried to do some online registry fixes, but since most are .exe files I am unable to perform them.

 

Download the file UnHookExec, save to your desktop.

Right click on the INF file and select "install" from the list.

You should now be able to run executable programs, let me know if this worked.

 

I did as you asked. I had to extract the zip file to my desktop but when I right clicked on UnHookExec and selected install I got a windows msg.

Windows can not open this file:

File: grpcpmv.exe

To open this file windows needs to know what program.........

2) If that did not work..

1. Download this file - Combo Fix

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

The .exe extension was not there.

See if you can do the below...

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fixme.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fixme.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.

 

If you're able to complete my previous post, go back to Post 3 and try that once more. Right click and select install!

Are you having any other problems? Any malware problems?

 

Not that I could see. Some of the logs are attached if you can take a look. From what I can remember Panda and Bit ran clean finding just a few tracking cookies out side of that nothing serious. Thanks again.

 

Download the updated versions and attach new logs.
