For example, I'm trying to run ASUS' PCProbeII at startup and Defender blocks it and it's classified as being 'not yet classified'. I've tried clicking every link including help and I can't figure it out. Please help this budding Vista n00b. Thanls

I don't think end users can classify, I have the same issue with APC Powerchute, but it still starts up. That its not digitally signed might have something to do witht it.

Also, with Defender, you can go into Allowed Items and allow certain blocked programs.

Number 2 ver. 1.04.23 which came out last week. Strange as Open Office isn't signed either but it's 'permitted' out of the box. Has to be an ASUS thing as nTune and my onboard Realtek have the same designation, 'not yet classified'. I don't mind Vista warning me of potential disaster or danger, but to outright deny me my decisions on what I want to run is beyond me.:confused I doubt most any user would have gone as far as I have to try and get this going.

    BTW, ASUS A8N-E

I too, have had issues with this. That and getting denied when modifying or deleting things, when I am running something as admin, etc.

I'm not used to not having full control, when running as admin. Even in nix, if I run as root, or use su or sudo, I have complete control.

    Vista should be the same.

Hey, can you tell me the message it gives when it blocks it?

    Mmm, yes.

Thats not Defender doing it, its UAC intervening.

The fix is to turn off UAC, or wait for Asus to hopefully release a version that adheres to the guidelines Microsoft set forth for programs like this.

Expertool does the same thing to me. I acutlaly set the app to run as admin, and my computer stopped booting ;)

You are welcome to try it though :p

Ya, well turning UAC off worked, kind off defeats the purpose of UAC then. One would think that ASUS would have its act together by now. rolleyes Thanks for the help Adryn.:) Much appreciated.
