Window triple boot listing dilemma.

Hi,i HAD a triple boot system on my pc on 3 separate hard drives as follows:
1:windows xp pro
2:windows vista
3:windows vista

Long story short,i removed both windows vista versions by deleting the partitions and wiping both drives.

PROBLEM:After ever reboot windows is still offering me the 3 above listed operating systems to choose from even though both vista versions are gone.
How do i eliminate both windows vista LISTINGS?

 

Goto Start --> Run and type in "msconfig" and hit enter

Select the "BOOT.INI" tab

Click the "Check All Boot Paths" button.


This will check all the lines in boot ini file and let you remove the invalid ones.

 

I followed your information and windows states:ALL BOOT.INI lines for all microsoft operating systems are OK.

It listed XP PRO as the only operating system.I rebooted and it still has the 2 vista listings.Any other advice to remove the 2 vista listings?

 

You are still using the Vista MBR and bootloader.

You will need to install the XP bootloader with fixmbr from the recovery console.

Better make sure there is a boot.ini on the drive first, because Vista doesnt use one

 

Thanks for the info------could you be more detailed on how to apply your information?. I know MBR is the master boot record---as far as XP bootloader and recovery console with fixmbr,i don`t know.
How could the vista MBR and bootloader continue to be in use since i wiped both vista drives?

boot.ini is a hidden file, and should be on your system drive (where windows, or at least the bootsector, resides.)
