Just a note to all who have requested a simple "Tutorial" on "Folding" I have made up a new thread in the "Folding Forum" entitled "So you want to "Fold" Instructions for the "Novice"". I hope that it simplifies "Folding" for those that have expressed concerns about getting started folding.

Those that "Fold" will find it overly simplistic I know, but its intent is for the Novice to folding.

So any of you out there that want to give it a try drop by, "Remember the life you help save by "Folding" maybe the one you Love"

Fast or slow just about any PC can "Fold" Kestrel13!, even Playstations and Graphic Cards can fold. the reason I made the thread Kestrel13! is so even the least knowledgeable PC user can have easy instructions to start folding, and your far from that my Lady.

Folding costs us nothing, but could and can save a life, maybe even that of someone we Love. Its simply to install, Safe to use, and requires no maintenance, and you get your name listed on the Mighty Major Geeks Folding Team, so you too can say your a "Folding Guru"

Go to the folding forums first Kes.;) As long as you don't have a laptop you'll be fine, I even fold on my old 1GHz Celeron, not fast by any means but as BCGray says every bit counts.:)

Yea Ditto here Bazza, my wife folds on her laptop, actually she turns in more Work Units(WU's) than me :mad:mad:eek, but then she has a better and faster Proc than this Old Geezer has( now know snide comments Gang:D)..............Auggie, the latest Graphic Client even has a turn off Folding when Laptop is on Battery Power, now the Console Client which I believe you are running is a different story, as its is not as easily disabled as it runs as a service that starts on boot, if you try to turn it off in "Task Manager" it just restarts. That is why for the "Novice" to "Folding" I always recommend the "Graphical Client", it may not be as Geeky as the "Console Client", but is more user friendly. Kinda like the ongoing "Linux" Vs "Windows" debate.

But like you said Auggie every WU turned in is one more that helps the cause:dood, and you have helped alot in the Forum you work in, and the Folding you yourself do:clap:highfive

Actually Bill "Folding" does not require much of a Internet Connection. Dial-Up works great. The F@H engine only goes online Twice for each Work Unit(WU) once for upload, and once for download both about four seconds even on Dial-Up.

Anytime you want to start Bill just drop by "The Old Folding Forum" and give a shout, or you can PM me if need be.

It's just that I had heat issues after a few hours of folding. I should not make generalizations. Bad augie.

Augie: If you are using the GUI version, you can use the Configure/Advanced section to adjust the % of CPU available to the f@h program. 60% or so should run cool enough. You might want to check for dust, a laptop should be able to work for a while without heat issues.

It wasn't the GUI version and the gf just said to take it off, the client that is, and refused to have it on her lappy anymore in any form. She hears me cussing at my box often enough and doesn't like it when I fool with her laptop.:D :innocent

Heya Augie your not a bad Doggie, just not HouseBroken yetLOL

I install the Graphical Client on the wife's laptop Augie, and yea I got the same from mine to begin with, but now its "She who Must Be Obeyed" that is always asking "did my points go in", "where are we on the list", "You have to get the other core working you know":confusedrolleyes:D So she is now the "Folding Fanatic" in the house.

The Graphical Client still seems to be the best to start off with for most users, mainly because of the Tray Icon, that allows them that sense of instant control over F@H, and reminds them that it is there working. Like Fred_G said you can also throttle the sucker back at anytime you want is a neat feature for any machine during the "Hot" months, and you can config the Graphic client to turn off when the Lappy is on Battery Power.

Just remember Augie that your "She Who Must Be Obeyed" may just become a Folding Fanatic like mine has:D

BC, your step by step was so helpful. I probably wouldn't have done it if not for that. I had 2 browsers up, checking your instructions then doing it on my other one. Guess it worked got bubble looking things on the screen. Thanks!

Hey your welcome darlene1029, and great to have you aboard the "Major Geeks Folding Ship". You make a point that I missed when I was making it, and that is if you have two browsers up you can follow it, but I think I should make a "Printable Version" as well so you could just Print it off and follow. Will work on that this week, again great to have you "Folding" darlene1029

Nice to see a F@H team getting some new members! Looks like you will do well. Not sure if this has been listed in your thread, but this is a neat site to check out your team and personal stats: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=12072

You can search your team name for your personal stats, future estimates and what not.

If I can ever get back to where I was, kicking over 2K points a day, I will make a Fred_G folder on this site. Good peeps here. No chance of me leaving my team. I used to have a lot more points to play with, maybe that day will come again.

Tease away BCGray. Oh wait, you are number 80 or so, and we are number 49? Let the smack talk begin. If I can get the borg going again, I will make one fold for MajorGeeks.

It is all for the folding. Good luck to you and I may join you in a small way soon.
