Dual Channel with 4 sticks?

Hello, I currently have a motherboard capable of running dual channel and it has 4 slots for ram, if I run 4 x 1gb of identical pc6400 sticks of ram will the pc still run in dual channel? or would it disable it all together?

Dual Channel memory is bought in pairs.
So if you want your computer to have system wide dual channel capability...
You'll have to buy dual channel memory.
Identical memory sticks won't do the trick.

 

actually all dual channel kits are is a matched set of ram. If you use 4 sticks w/ same speed size etc then the run in dual channel . I'm running 4 such sticks no problems.

 

I've done it at least 3 times with no issue, even with generic no name ram.

There is a difference between not working, and not GUARANTEED to work.

 

well i am buying either Corsair XMS2 pc6400 1gb x4 thays 2 pais of dual channel pc6400 ram

or

transcend Axeram which has the lowest latencies at the cheapest price for 800mhz.

they will be 2 pais of 1gb sticks so basically all 2 sticks will be dual channel and completely identical, I should have no issue right?

 

I dont think theres any such thing as dual memory ram, you have a dual memory controller, if both sticks of ram match, it will run in dual mode. ed

 

yes but if i fill up all four slots with 1gb of ram thats identical they should all run in dual channel right?
