I recently purchased a gaming computer designed by myself. I have a good bit of knowledge when it comes to computers so I know that everything that was put into it was compatible. To double check this I researched every compenents specs before having them included into it. I got my computer 3 days ago, since then it has basically been a $1800 paper weight. It randomly powers itself off completely, no warning, just shuts off and occasionally will not come back on for a couple hours. I have checked all the ram in it, tried each stick invidually in all 4 dimms...problem still kept occurring. I do not know if it is the power supply because I don't exactly have a 600 watt psu laying around to swap it out with. This problem is completely random, doesn't matter if the computer is idle or if I am gaming on it.

    Computer Specs
150 Gig Western Digital Raptor Hard drive
640 Mb Geforce 8800 Gts video card
    2 gigs of corsair ram
    MSI P35 Neo mother board
Intel 2.66 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor
Max Orb fan system (keeps it at roughly 30 degrees Celcius)
    Windows XP
    600 Watt PSU

And that's about all I can really think of to add. I come here for help/advice because I believe that the people I purchased it from are stupid. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a heat problem, go into bios [setup] and see what temp the thermal shut down is set to, raise it one notch and see if that helps. ed

I have went through every tab in my bios and have yet to see anything about "thermal shutdown" oh and based off my bios readings my computer has yet to reach above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. I really wish I could figure this problem out, because if I send it back I am going to end up losing money on this deal.

It might not be called "Thermal Shutdown" per se, however, as tunered has pointed out, it is likely a BIOS/CMOS setting that is shutting you down. You may find it under CPU operating temperature, or something similar. Scour those pages until you find anything that shows "temperature" in any context.

I have went through it, the only thing I see involving temperature is my "PC Health" tab and all of those are read only with no ability to change.

Having no choices, i would pull the heatsink off the cpu and redo, maybe the thermal grease was applied to thin, not at all, who knows. ed

Nah I'm just going to have to pay to send it back to the manufacturer and have them sort it out. Just a little hint for people...dont get a computer from Ibuypower...the prices may make it look appealing but when a computer tech at the company asks "Did you check to see if the plastic film was taken off the video card and that all of the wires were plugged in properly" you are just better off at not buying from them.
