just wondering if this is something that needs sorting out ?

It should fix itself. Sometimes the servers at Stanford have some problems.

Ditto the good advice Fred_G gave you shanemail, plus sometimes you might find as I have that the program "Hangs" especially when attempting to send/receive new WU's. Try turning the program off, then restart, this usually solve the problem. However the most common is the one Fred_G gave.

Oh yea and a big Welcome to the Fold shanemail

"The Fold" - yippee my first cult :hyper

    Thanks guys, thought as much
I believe that stanford are having some issues at the moment, but when you are new it still pays to ask a few questions.

I'm running the console client as an open application at the moment, would rather run as a service but still be able to interface with it.
Have installed 'electron microscope III' which looks like it will do the job.

Just wondering with the graphical client, run as a service, can you still enter the parameters ?
    -advmethods -forceasm -verbosity 9

and if I were to modify a shorcut target in startup to the following:
    "E:\Program Files\Folding@Home\FAH504-Console.exe" -service -advmethods -forceasm -verbosity 9

would it then run as a service, or is it not that simple ?
I have no previous experience with console / parameters / flags etc

If I can get the same results with the graphical client I will give that a go, but if the console client is the fastest, I will stick with it :)

    Thanks again guys :wave

Figured out why my WU's were not uploading with some help from
    http://forum.folding-community.org

Had to go into config and change the following to no
    Use Internet Explorer Settings <no/yes>

It is a problem with IE7

2 completed units just sent :)

Warm welcome to folding Shane, did you find answers to all your questions?

Sorry I didn't get back to you Shanemail, but the F@H Forum is a great place to find most of your answers, if someone is stumped. Takes a fair amount of time digging to find the solution at times, which is why if there is a member here that has had the same problem it is usually faster. I encourage one and all to join the F@H Forum it is a great resource, and if they don't have the answer, the Panda Group will search for it in the code if required.

Great point Shanemail, and glad you got the units off

    Thanks Peg :)

Still working on most of them

A bit more googling to do and maybe a thread (or search :D) in the software forum at some stage, nothing urgent at the moment.

    :wave

btw: have you had a title change recently, or do I need to pay more attention ?

If you still need, there are instructions for running console as a service here, link to FireDaemon still good, Goldfish's dir. looks easiest.

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=38418

Also from what I read looks like your way will work too.
    http://fahwiki.net/index.php/How_do_I_add_flags_using_a_shortcut_to_the_console_client%3F

*link above is to instructions if NOT running as service already.
(for others finding this link) Yep, me becoming aware, took me awhile tho.

If installed service and want to just add flags, look at bottom of link page for that link.

Haven't seen anything re running the Graphic Client with flags...don't think so, but me newbie to folding.

Re title KittyCat? been there for months *Cheshire cat grin* I noticed you're turning blue, might be affecting your eye site

p.s you don't want to know what I did to install flags and commands...cat likes to play with her software :D

    *scampers off*

    Thanks for the links :)

The folding Gnome has a thread with Folding links
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=138278

From which I downloaded Tray It, which gives me what I want.
when minimised the client is in the notification area (system tray)
so it is out of the way, but still accessible.

I also downloaded FahMon, which achieves a similar result but also allows you to monitor multiple cores and view the log while running the console as a service.

Finally got it running exactly as I want it to :D

Am running the console as a service and using FahMon to monitor it

The issue i had was including the parameters while running as a service. I should have been able to do this through 'services.msc' but for some reason I could enter them in the 'parameter' field but could not apply them.

So, i did it through the registry

Glad you got everything set up and working right shanemail. I have been doing a bit of learning with the console, starting to like it over the graphical one.

    Oh yeah, beta console...:D

I just installed F@H as a GUI in addition to already running a service and FahMon picks them both up nicely. Thanks as I was clueless as to what the service was doing except when the results were posted. I'll probably switch that to console to get the max oomph out of it. I'll find out if it works tomorrow as the WU should be done by then.

Over the next couple of weeks (depending on ebay)
I will be building/rebuilding a pc using parts that I have upgraded from

Will be folding on both, setting up my first network and hopefully monitoring both with Fahmon on the one computer.
If it works for your dual core it should work for my network :confusedrolleyes:D

Interesting idea, I have two computers folding right now going through a router. I'll see if FahMon can pick up the other rig by sharing the F@H folder on the other one. I'll get back to you.

I am curious about that also. I should get another computer or so going in my little 'farm'. Would be neat to check all of their progress on the main computer.

Hahahaha, it's so easy! Just share the folder on the other machine, go to network places with FahMon, choose the folder and you're in! So here's my little farmlet. The 'Celly is my 1GHz Celeron, not much power compared to my main machine but every bit helps. I think I'll go through BlackViper's guide to get rid of unnecessary services to speed it up as much as possible.

Hehe, I was contemplating building another machine, I have an extra CPU and drive, if I could find an S939 motherboard cheap+case+PSU+memory, I'd be all set. Electricity is cheap here so that's no concern.

How are you getting fahmon installed? I downloaded the .exe version from the 'Geeks' link, window does not know what it is. My brain must still be asleep.

computergeeks.com is the place I pickup barebones systems, also I frequent some computer forums to purchase used systems from those I trust.
here is my Heat to show you all the forums I have dealt with.
Mostly 2cpu and ResellerRatings.com forums, also got a free stick of laptop memory 128MB from the free thread at [FONT=Arial, Verdana, Helvetica]BigBruin.com

I have put that same request into the Administrator's about Five days ago shanemail even made up a banner for us which I modified for my "Icon"

Have not heard back from them on this as of yet, will let you know when I do.

Thanks for the idea;) shanemail, and to all the rest just remember that this forum has been idle for awhile with the departure of Goldfish, so it is up to us ALL to breath back life to the "Old Folding Forum". You guys and gals are doing a fantastic job in doing just that with your posts. So keep it up, and let the rest know "Folding" is fun, and saves lives to boot.

By the way as of today there are now "87" "Active Folders" on our roster, and this is due to your guys & gals great work.

Remember too that friendly competition and teasing about points is great, but lets not scare off the users that have slower units and can not compete at the same level that some can. We help ALL users here first, which is what we are presently doing, so keep on folding gang

I downloaded that thing 4 or 5 times on this computer, no luck. I was sitting there looking at my laptop 2 feet away with FahMon running on it. Both have WinXP Pro and share the same router. So I emailed the program to myself, and now it is running.:D

Sometime soon I will have to look into getting my other computer(s) on another router to work with it too.

Very nice program. Keep up the FAH MajorGeeks! And thanks for helping, even though I am on another team.;)

Good way of putting it shanemail. I will be glad to help anyone here if I can.

Give it a some work and some time, and I think MajorGeeks will be moving up pretty quick on the FAH stats. I love watching a team start to ramp up. Makes me want to find ways to boost my own little farm.

Yea but come on Fred_G you know you wanta, you know you really wanta......... jump off that Rig and join the MajorLOLLOL...........Just kidding Bro see your team has cracked the 1,000,000 mark per month, and your still in the "Top Ten" way to go. Hopefully this month Major Geeks will break the 1,000,000 mark too;)

This is an easier (and safer ;)) way of altering parameters for the console client when running as a service.

    pk's F@H Service Config Tool

Sure beats my dubious registry hack :)

  35. noprob

    noprob Corporal

why couldn't this program be used on the graphical version in "service" mode.

just curious... also Grumbles might be able to use this program, unless someone knows how to access the graphical configuration area to allow 95% instead of the regular 100%.

another also is I realize this percentage only refers to the idle cycle periods of the cpu to be used by FAH to crunch out WU's

p.s.I like the dubious registry hack. :cool
