It could be a few thing the first a driver issue need new driver or your video card is on it's last leg how old is you video card ???

Or bad cable or card NOT inserted correctly in video slot.....

I know that, I mean not inserted correctly so the best thing to do it's to remove it and put it back in.....

Clark knows you dont have it in backwards, what he means is, removing and reinstalling sometimes cleans the contacts so it will work again, could be possibly overheating and shutting down, if it has a fan on the card, next time it shuts off look and see if the fan is still running on the card. ed

If the card is one year old it is old enough to accumulate dust and possibly overheat. Do as suggested and see if the fan remains on (there are a few in the 7600 series that do not have fans).

You can download a handy tool called RivaTuner, which is currently in version 2.03. This is a nice tool for monitoring data of your NVIDIA card in real time. It will tell you how hot the card is running and it will tell you how fast the fan is spinning (and allow you to make it spin faster).
Might not be a bad idea to head over to NVIDIA.com and download the latest driver for your card also.

    Good Luck.

guys somehow i think i fixed it

ive been thinking its video card failure, or maybe even the cpu, buuutttt i came home last night mecca stoned and somehow i came upon the conclusion that it was my optical drives. so i got in that bitch and i unplugged my dvd drives. now i think i somehow dug this knowledge upon from a latent memory but i really dont know. so when i turned it on sure enought the bitched worked. its been on since, so unless it happens again which i think it wont, i miraculously fixed (yes it was a miracle ive been suffering from this ffor a while and i came upon the ailment stoned so...ugh) also im thinking things may have been runnin too hot

    turns out i was wrong

after that the computer worked for 3-5 days w/o a a problem, now its back to its same old tricks, i think it was a cmos problem bc 1 of the times i got it to boot up it said somthing was wrong with the cmos during the boot up

im gonna look into clearing the cmos, why it would be the cmos, i dont know. like i said i did switch boards and am still having the same problem

no i havnt, and im not sure i shud, the ppl i had building the computer and doing maintenance on it gave me a temp mobo while they replace my old one, so wont i just have to update it again once i get my new mobo

You can always use a friends pc and lookup your motherboard's make and model on the web and check for a bios update for it.
