ATI DVI out problems

I have a computer (ATI x700) hooked up to my hdtv. When the s-video is connected it works, I see the post screen and everything works. When I try to boot with the DVI connected, nothing else works - no s-video, no vga (brought monitor into living room to test), no DVI - no picture anywhere. When the s-video and vga are plugged in by themselves (separately or both without the DVI) it works fine. I can plug in the DVI after the computer has loaded windows and I can manually add it in the Catalyst control centre, but I don't want to do this every time.

I used to have an NVidia5700 DVI-out hooked up to the same computer and television, nothing else changed. It worked perfectly. I uninstalled the driver and used driver cleaner before I installed the ATI drivers.

Any ideas on what is wrong? The highest widescreen resolution the s-video will do is 720x480 (which looks awful :cry), so I'd like the get the DVI working. Thanks for any help.

 

You will need to go into your ati control panel and set the optitions, i fought this also, its been awhile since i did this so i am a little lost to excatly how, remember s-video has no audio, and your tv has to be set on pc. ed

 

I have tried saving the settings for DVI in the control panel. I have my audio set up through my sound card to my amp and I do have the video input on the tv set to DVI. However, no matter what I do in the control panel, when I reboot the computer the DVI connection does not display anything and when the DVI is plugged in none of the other video outs (s-video or vga) work. It worked with the Nvidia card. :banghead
