Shockwave updater

Running Win XP
I have noticed in the last couple of days a new icon in the taskbar: When I hover the mouse over it, the display is Shockwave Updater.
I cannot open it up with left or right click of mouse. It is not in Add/remove programs either.
I believe it is something to do with Adobe and a recent version update but can't be sure.
Has anyone else noticed this annoying icon and have you managed to safely remove it from your taskbar and PC?

I assume you've tried right or left click and then move the mouse? I've been noticing an oddity sometimes where if you leave the mouse stationery after clicking, no menu pops up but as soon as you move the mouse it does. This is in various things and probably some idiosynchrasy of my machine but it's just a suggestion.

I think I have noticed an icon in my system tray but it was only there until we completed the update I think. Have you seen what a restart does?

 

Bring up the Task Manager (ctrl + alt + del) click on the processes tab, locate PostUpdater and click on End Process.

Then go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 1\PostUpdater.exe and delete it.

I have this same problem with Shockwave Updater icon showing up in my Taskbar. I followed the advice above and it did go away but next day it was right back.
So I have followed the steps above again. Guess I will see if it comes back again tomorrow.
