    Stop using Firefox.

Thats a normal load for FF, and Im sure the more addons you have, the larger the load gets.

I'm currently running 42,700 on a Win2000 machine with firefox. Only one tab open.

I've never actually checked the RAM usage for it before (or for I.E. for that matter). I didn't know it used that much.

If they are visiting mostly text based sites, their usage is lower.

    IE - 8 add-ons
Opera - wouldn't have a clue, can't find 'em , whatever it comes with (default)
    FF - 2 add-ons (default)

sites were a fairly average (if there is such a thing) blend of text and graphics

    FireFox 2.0.7 with 2 addons and 3 tabs open = 39,464 KB

IE 6 with no addons and the same 3 pages open = 96,520 KB

I cannot say what a tabbed IE7 would give on the same pages (I never liked IE7) but FF tabbed is much more efficient than 3 IE6's. ;)

I had about 88MB with just this page open. I uninstalled StumbleUpon, and this download status bar extension, and now it's coasting with 44MB. :cool

I guess I'd have to run out of ram to see it happen.

I dunno; I'm not concerned with ram hungry apps, as I never run out. Sometimes I think people put too much emphasis on small footprint apps.

Turns out I had FF open twice. It was also minimized with 3 tabs open, plus having it open viewing the MG page. (eta...it's not as bad as it may seem. I hide my taskbar when I'm not using it. hehe...just had to add that)

    I'm down to 35.3K now. :D

Yeah...the only time I pay attention is when I see a thread like this. My computer runs great and I don't have any slowdown issues or anything.

Agree with Adrynalyne, as long as you have plenty of RAM any program / process use is not a problem.
I have 2 gigs on XP Pro and when logged onto the net and all my necessary processes / programs running I stll have slightly over 1.5 megs of free RAM (as per FreeRAM XP Pro). :cool Bazza
