    Hi,

just got a new computer, had is like 2 hours and done nothing to it,

but all of a sudden the computer just sticks/freezes and CPU - 100%

its driving me mad, as it takes ages to do anything.

its like something is running in the background that isnt visible, but ive checked task manager, and everything seems fine,

ive rebooted and updated windows. but still the same:(

any ideas? me and my friends are totally lost.:yum

    thanks!

Well, as it's new, my first idea is to ring the place you bought it from and get a replacement. If it is going like that only two hours after getting it who is to say what might happen down the road, a new system simply should not do that.

If you want to take a stab at finding a solution more information is needed:

Make - if any (dell etc)
    System Specs
Programs the PC came bundled with (if any)

There are a few things you might be able to do in the interim with out voiding the warranty.

Update graphics card drivers from the official site
Run an anti virus scan - unlikely one would think (and hope!), but you never know. (AVG and Avast! are excellent free ones)

However, I still stick by my first statement, if it is brand new, get a replacement, personally, that is what I would do.

    All the best :)

someone said that it might be high temperature?:(

checked temp in bios, all is ok.
only installed drivers, but they have been fine,

restarted pc in safe mode, still same problem..

custom made, its been running for 2 hours, all the parts are 100% new. and all fitted professionally, its some software but i dont know which bit, i havent installed anything :S its been running fine for 2 hours then i pluged in a usb mouse and rebooted, and it just kept freezing the computer every second,

i dont think its the mouse that would cause all this trouble, but then again, u never know computers..

all parts are top quality and under warrenty. just really really confused why this is happening,:(

Did you install and update the drivers for the mouse?

Never underestimate the slightest change, if it was working fine with out the usb mouse and then freezes with it, there is quite a high possibility the mouse is something to do with it. Switch the mouse over again and see if the problem persists if nothing else :)

Interesting story that confused me, and still confuses me to this day.

The first PC I ever had developed the oddest problem, if the monitor was on during boot windows(95) would not load at all, it would just freeze. It booted fine with the monitor off. I only found this out by chance (and I like to think a highly developed analytical mind also ^^). It was repeatable 100% of the time and was not only when I started my extreme fascination with computers, but learned to never overlook any change made to a pc and peripherals attached.

This of course doesn't mean it absolutely is the mouse, it just means that although we might not understand how something is making x/y/z go wrong it doesn't mean that it can't or isn't :)

I think Ciz has a valid suggestion here. If the only change you have made is a USB mouse, try booting without the mouse. I used to have a USB Wacom mouse pen thing that would prevent my computer from shuting down. I had to unplug the computer for it to shut off, it would just hang at the windows shutdown screen. Worked just fine with the device uninstalled.
