I have an ASUS P5B Plus motherboard with 4 USB ports on board and two on the front case. I am having an issue with 2 of the 4 on board USB ports in the back. If I have a mouse plugged in and the computer is off. If I tap the mouse or unplug the mouse and plug it back in the computer turns on. This only happens with 2 of the 4 in the back. Is it a short? Any suggestions would be great. Looked in the bios for some kind of hint of a function to turn something like this on or off and didnt see anything. thanks

    Eric

Are you sure you don't have your computer in Sleep mode and it's just waking up when you move your mouse?

If your computer is actually starting from a full shutdown when this happens, it sounds like you may have a defective motherboard, at least as far as those two USB ports are concerned. If this is the case and your motherboard is otherwise functioning normal, a PCI USB card such as SYBA PCI USB 2.0 4+1 port controller card Model SD-V2-5U - Retail would be a solution.

So, is it something enabled/disabled in the BIOS?

beats me I cant find anything in the bios to turn it off. it just works you plug either a keyboard or mouse into the usb port near the network port and they will power back on the system if you click on the mouse or keyboard

Well, in your original post, you gave the impression this was a recent issue. Can clarify this point? And, did you find specific reference on ASUS website stating this is normal?

Yes, I scanned the three pages of FAQ at the link you provided but did not see the answer there. That's why I was probing you for a specific reference for your statement that your computer's behavior is normal, but I guess you can't or won't provide it.
