We went on another movie binge last night...

The House Next Door (not as good as I was hoping...bearing in mind that to me "good" equals "cheesy as heck")
Party Monster (EXCELLENT film! Not at all what I was expecting)
Alfie (also much better than I was expecting)
Soul Survivors (I dunno if I was just tired or what, but I couldn't follow it to save my life).

Epic Movie. Can anyone explain to me why this got such low ratings? I mean, it is so obvioulsy low-brow humour, why do people get their knickers in such a twist? We laughed our butts off, and had to go back several times because we missed the next thing. :D

Before that, the F4 Silver Surfer.
Was it just me or was Jessica Alba's make up kind of freaky looking in some scenes?:eek

From what I saw, this movie freaking rocked!! (F4ROSS) Her make up was different, I think they tried to contour her face a little too much. However, I really loved how they did her hair for the weddign that suffered copterus-interruptus :)

Not a DVD, but went to the movies and saw "A Mighty Heart" - does this count? (The true and tragic story of Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl's abduction in Karachi and the intense effort of his wife to find him during the weeks following his disappearance and eventual murder.)

Remember seeing a documentary of this back in 2002 when it was international news. Good movie.

I loved both of them. haha...I got made fun of too. I wonder if Grindhouse is like Kill Bill.

Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite films, but I didn't find either of the Kill Bill movies very interesting overall.

Last DVD watched...well, the very last one was the director's cut of Brazil. I saw the studio cut of it quite a few years ago and didn't much like it at all. But I loved the first half or so of the director's cut but then, it seemed to me, there wasn't nearly as much cleverness and wit in the last half of the film.

And just before we watched Brzail last night we watched (this is a DVD, but not a movie!))...drum roll and blast of trumpets...lol...Episode 7 (I think) of a series of video lectures on the Early Middle Ages! (That episode was the second of two lectures about St. Augustine in the series.) This is sort of a plug but I have no financial interest in the company. If you're interested in college level courses without having to take tests and write papers (and without any formal academic credit -- i.e. you'd just like to continue learning) check out The Learning Company. They recruit popular and highly rated university professors from around the country to create a wide range of audio/video lectures on history, literature, mathematics, psychology, political science, astronomy, geography and a number of other subjects.

You can easily find their website if you search on the company name, The Learning Company. Note that while the "list" prices for their courses are generally rather expensive, at any one time a number of them are on sale at greatly reduced rates (check the website, or their ads (in Scientific American, The New York Times and other major publications) to see what's currently on sale. And during each year each course goes on sale at least once. So if you're patient and watch their website or ads you never have to pay full price for one of their courses.

Many of their courses are available as audio lectures on CD's which can be great for long commutes or trips. (Courses which rely heavily on video, diagrams and other visual aids are not necessarily available on CD's, but there are many that are.)

Well, this is sort of a bit off topic, but hope some of you find it of interest. And, after all, at least it was the next to last DVD I watched.

Old thread of mine, but I just watched "The Last King of Scotland" again.
Great movie, great work by Forest Whitaker playing Idi Amin and a reminder that not much has changed in African countries over the last 30-40 years. :cry

A film called Flummox, which you might not have heard of due to it being an independent local film. They've got a myspace page, but don't bother trying to understand the trailer, if there is one. I watched the whole film and I still didn't know what was supposed to be happening. In fact, neither did anyone else, including the bloke who filmed and directed it, because I asked him. It was one of those films with an inconclusive ending.

Gee this sums me up, but I think the last one I watched was the Doctor Who episode The Five Doctors (special edition). If only they released the DVD with the original television version and the special edition all in one box then I'd be a happy person.:D

That is wonderful Bazza! I know it's pretty pricey for the DVD set, but worth it for the money.

I still haven't got all of the new series on DVD yet, but I'll be hoping it'll be for a present. Doubtful of this year, but I'm very patient. I'd probably get all of the classic episodes then gear up for the new stuff.
