    Is Java a necessary program for a PC. I have it and am not sure what it does for me. I'm basically just a surfer.

    No its not necassary at all, however if you dont have it installed then webpages and applications that rely on Java will not work, so if you surf alot then the answer is YES, but also keep it upto date and remove any older versions from Add/Remove

    Good stuff, do remember if not already dones so, to go into Add/Remove and remove all the old Java versions and Java is not a straight update, each version is a stand alone one.

    One other item that I'm not sure what it does for me is ArcSoft Photostudio 5.5. Know anything about that one?

    On Arcsoft and just going via the name of it, it will be a photo manipulation application, good for touching up and croping photos, so if you have a digital camer this app will come in handy, as its always worth having one Photo app installed.

    Looks a nice app btw and if you dont have the manual for it as I guess it came pre-loaded on your PC, the link above has it for download.

    Thanks again, Halo. I'm just trying to get rid of some programs in my add/remove but don't know a lot about several of them. I've got a bunch of Dell stuff like:
