Running late, guests arriving, reasonably organised with other dishes and dessert, except for the meat dish. Grab meat from fridge and start cooking while finishing dressing.

Well, dinner was enjoyed by all, but the meat was kinda chewy:confused. We all looked like cows in a pasture chewing cud...conversation was sort of difficult while chewing. Friends like mine, no holds barred, so a general joke was made about the meat.

When storing leftovers in the fridge, I noticed the meat designated for our dinner sitting there....uncooked! I had cooked up the cat's meat instead:eek:. (same containers). I had to 'fess up to my friends who roared laughing at me as I showed them evidence that I really had bought "real" meat for our dinner.

Next time, I won't be so hasty, and will check first!

maybe now you will have give the cat a better quality of meat after you have introduced gourmet food to the menu he/she may not want to return to the chewy variety.

LoL! LOL. Well, for the cat's food to at least be basically acceptable to humans, the cat must normally be eating pretty good grub.

The only cat food I keep in the refrigerator is 'Whiskas', so I haven't mixed that one up yet. Came close. I had a tin of curry, which had a pinkish label on it as well, (similar colour scheme to the cat food), and nearly emptied it into the frypan. - Saw it wasn't quite right when I put the spoon in - <duh!> rolleyes. Luckily, it was before I started putting it in.

I did put salt into the sugar bowl, once. I don't take sugar in my coffee, but I soon heard about it from my visitors, eh. <gag!, splutter!..>. Ah well, I eventually convinced them it wasn't a prank, just me being a bit too hasty in my filling. :puke

You sound just like my friends...as they were walking out the door they commented, "We'll make it BYO next time, that is, Bring Your Own Meat!":D

    Never will live that down.LOL

    LOL
Thought the meat was grainier before cooking, but didn't worry too much:eek:

Thanks for making me feel better Phantom, thought I was the only distracted person around hereLOL

Have used the cat's milk by mistake for making hot chocolates ("Whiskas", which sits next to my Soy milk carton in fridge)...again, distracted, chatting away and didn't notice it until after it was drunk and putting things away...thought it tasted creamier:yum...friends didn't notice, so this time I didn't 'fess up.:p

:DGotta confess, he insists on sampling whatever I eat, so he gets his "gourmet" food anyway. Reckon he must have an Italian background, because he loves pasta and sauce whenever I have it!:yumLOL

Yeah, it didn't take too much convincing for my 'guests', (lol!) to realise it wasn't a gag. They know me only too well . I don't do silly things a lot, but when I do, it's usually a classic;).

I keep sugar, salt, flour, rice, etc. in plastic bulk jars for good keeping. Then write the initial of what it is on the front of the container and the lid in ‘Texta’. Which would be pretty foolproof, but both sugar and salt start with the letter 'S'. You can see where I'm going here. .....Anyway, I use raw sugar, nowadays - and that's brown, lol. :p If anyone insists on white sugar, they can open some of the many dozens, (I'm a shocker of a hoarder) of sachets around. (As long as they don't pick up the salt sachets. ...Ermmm, not my fault, then, eh! ;) ).

Great story LS. My wife had to come and see what I was laughing at. I'd like to have been sitting at that table chewing. I wouldn't mind...I like cats.:D

Yeah, but it's the classics that one can't live down.LOL

Like you, I now differentiate by keeping my cat's meat in his own blue container now.;)

<By the way, my cat gets tin food too...I just give him a variety during the day, each day...reckon if I like variety, he does too:)>

:D You would have been welcome too! It would have been nice to have someone really "appreciate" that meal...I really got teased whenever they could unlock their jaws...it was so darn chewy!LOL

What food do you feed you cat that could possibly be confused with regular food?? LOL

    Hey Birthday Girl!

Butcher I've known long time slices low grade meat, (never have asked what part) that I buy cheap. My cat loves it raw or cooked. He cuts the pieces similar to size and shape as my steaks...so being in a rush, I wondered but didn't worry about the grainy look.. Plus with the condiments and Marsala I added, it tasted fine, just very chewyLOL

<Whatcha doin' here instead of celebrating? Have a super time! Should be a fun night.>

    Cheers and Happy Birthday:)

lmao...well glad to hear it came from the butcher and you weren't feeding your guest Nine Lives! LOL

It's only 9 in the morning here. My day has just started and hubby has taken the kids out. So, right now, I am enjoying myself in a quiet house. :)

    @ LauraR

Now you've got me thinking about it, because I've only ever asked the butcher for cat's meat. Don't want to know or find out...friends just accepted it as butcher's meat, so I'm leaving it at that!rolleyes:D

<Enjoy your quiet time...then rev it up tonight;)>

Uh, maybe I won't come to dinner. Umm, something else came up. Yeah, that's it.;)
However my cats are wondering if they can come instead. Like BILLMc's cat they'll just sit nicely at the table waiting for handouts.

Well my cat has been eating K.F.C. for the past two days. I went a tad crazy, and bought the jumbo bucket of 21 pieces. When I got it home, I realised that there was no way, short of living off this stuff for the next week, I can eat it all. So I've been giving it away, feeding it to the cat, just about anyone and everything that will eat it. Just got rid of the last of it (from Friday), today (Sunday) ~ Hurrah! :clap

@ L.S.:- Marsala is yum-o in my opinion! :yum

Your cat is better fed the ours. We have a huge bag of dry food and thats about they eat, except when Dan has seafood they get a taste but thats all they want of it.

If it's only for the next decade I'll be happy...these sort of "Ooopsies" spread like wildfire. You don't know my friends, some I've known since High School, and we still rib each other of antics/"classics" that we did back then!:D

<As an aside, figured you're not the type to check out the Recipes thread in the Lounge, so I thought I would alert you that I've some recipes with Marsala there. I've also added a dessert topping recipe with Marsala I thought you might like to try out.:p>

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Got it! Thanks for that one.:cool

Believe it or not, I'm actually a pretty good cook, and used to do recipes in another forum. But no time for that nowadays.

I did pork chops in smoked Mesquite sauce, roast ‘taters and greens, for some visitors, today. Maybe did too good a job. Went away to sort out some DVD's for someone, and the lot had disappeared, (I'm not joking!). So I ended up with McD's for dinner, instead, (Oh, Whoopee... rolleyes). <*Shakes Head!>.
I did have the sense to make extra sauce, which was the [relatively] hard bit, so I can make some more up, (this time when I'm ALONE!). ;)

  36. legalsuit

    legalsuit Legal Eagle

You're welcome (can adjust dessert topping by adding water or more Marsala or adjust amount of sugar to your own taste)..,hope you enjoy it.

LOLSo you missed out on your own meal huh? Musta been finger lickin' good:D Haven't tried any recipes with Mesquite sauce...perhaps you should post one in Recipes;)

    Cheers
