Windows Live Messenger 8.1 & Vista

I got a message saying I could not log into live messenger 8.0 and I had to install 8.1...I did this but now that I have even though i got a message that said 8.1 was installed it will not show the login box....I look at task manager and msnmsgr.exe is loded in memory .... I have unistalled and reinstalled it a dozen times no luck ...I even tried putting 8.0 back ..and it will show me the login box but tells me I cant login till I upgrade to 8.1... ??? so what am I to do?

Looks like another major screw up from Microsoft.

 

Microsoft knows and admits there's a problem with WLM 8.1 and Vista. However, it is free software and using it is a choice, so let's give credit where it is due

Microsoft has provided a workaround for the problem. Remember, Windows Live Messenger 8.1 was a beta. When 8.1 released out of beta, it will had the final stamp of Vista compatible code. So not another screw up - MSFT have got your back and are aware of the issues.

The Microsoft-suggested workaround:


1. Uninstall Flash Player (Click Start->Control Panel->Uninstall a Program, then select Flash Player)
2. Close Windows Live Messenger and any other programs that use Flash
3. Open Adobe public Flash Player beta site (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html)
4. Click "Download Installer for Windows Active X" to install


It's the Adobe Flash player causing the crashes. If you're on Vista, you have to install the Adobe Flash beta.

Thanks for the Quick Tip...I tried what you said and downloaded WLM 8.5 but no go ...using the task maner and looking under Processes I see messenger loaded but I can not see the log on sceen or any part of it on the screen....Thanks for trying.
