This has been bothering me for about a week. My main computer's UPS battery died, so I swapped the UPS out with a borg, and ran the borg off a power strip:eek:

Got my new battery in today, gave it a few hours of charge time, and put it online, and got my borg back on a UPS. Everything is looking good! I will test the new battery Tuesday.

You do have a UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply) for your main computer right? Not the cheapest thing to have, but the better ones run off a battery and regulate the power going to the 'puter. (yes, overly simple definition of an active UPS).

Well, I am happy to have the UPS's back up.

I need to look into the beast of a UPS I have that needs a new battery... This thing is the size of a small computer case!

A 'borg' is a computer that is mainly used for Folding at Home. Not sure where I picked it up from. It is often used for computers you do not own that are running the F@H program.

I've gone through the UPS battery replacement two times now, two different units, and found it to be satisfactory. I turned the old batteries in to a local computer recycling drive.

usafvet, they sent me a free shipping label. I have it boxed up and will drop it off the next time I am near the UPS drop off.

I hate running a computer without a UPS.

Yeah I know what you mean by that, speaking of UPS's i shoudl really test how long mine will last its about 2 years old now or something like that tis a Belkin 900VA, my computer draws 550watts of power not sure how much my moniter pulls. lets test it out see how long it takes for my comp to run outta power this will be a fun game.
well it took about 2 seconds to get down to 40% lol then i let it run for 3 minutes and the beeping started going off rapidly (think my roomate thought it was a fire alarm) well thats long enough for me. (High performance energy plan)

Sniper, how did you figure out how much your computer is drawing? I would like to know what mine draws just for the heck of it.

I unplugged my UPS, ran just fine (AMD dual core Folding@Home) for 10 minutes before the beeping got pretty much constant. I am happy with it. APC Back UPS LS 700.

I've got a 2 year old Ultra 1025 VA AMD X2 , a 19" LCD screen along with a modem and router, last time I had to use it, it lasted around 45 min after I killed F@H and stopped my second drive.

augiedoggie, when the folding stops, the computer is off, except for the occasional odd upgrade or what not! That is just me though.

I know belkin has a tool (which i dont currently have installed) which will show you how much power is being output, i just have my UPS hooked up via USB cable to my computer and vista auto-regonized it and installed it, If ur asking how do i know how much my computer draws well its ont he powersupply lol 550watts not sure about my 22inch Widescreen, i kinda figured that 900Voltage Amps would not keep my computer running for along time since its a pretty powerful machine 3-5 minutes is fine IMO evough to shutdown and save work if i was busy.

Sorry, what's marked on the PSU is the maximum power out that it is capable of, not the actual amount of power your PC takes. My 19" widescreen takes 55W so yours is somewhat more.

Latest powerchute software can tell you how much your machine is pulling from the UPS. It also has a self-test button to make sure its working.

For mine, I can also adjust the voltage settings for the AVR to be more, or less sensitive.
