I have a burning question. My daughter, who is a model for Wilhelmina out of Salt Lake City, was visiting us and sat with her macbookpro directly on her thigh, unprotected, for several hours. She called and told me her thigh was numb. Can a hot laptop slowly cook ones body part. Like the way you cook a live frog. She is very careful about her skin since she works shows wearing shorts sometimes I bought her a laptop cooler but she didn't bring it.

This has to be the first time this question has been asked. LOL A laptop slow cooking your thigh?

This isn't an expert medical answer, but if you have a burn, your thigh isn't going to be numb, it's going to burn or blister, or look like you have a sunburn. The skin would show the effect first. Sounds like she sat in one position for too long if you ask me.

that would be my guess too. positional damage done by not moving around enough

I just called her and she said there was no burn and the feeling is comming back. She was sitting there on the love seat for at least four hours and occasionally getting up to check the washer and dryer. Her next trip home she is getting a flu shot. She always faints when they give it to her.

Only thing related that I've heard is that guys should avoid having the laptop actually in their lap because the heat can prevent the little guys from swimming so well.

Not sure that is still valid with modern laptops though, they seem to run a little less hot.

A warmish thigh is about all she would get from a laptop. Since the energy is only regular heat, and not microwaves, you're not going to cook anything, lol.

Like a few people said, probably more like lack of circulation, sitting in one position too long.

There are a couple of things that can cause lack of sensations from the nerves, like having them directly damaged and people born with Autism are much more or less sensitive to temperatures and pain depending on the person, there's also congenital analgia. I know the issue has been resolved I just felt like noting that some of the assumptions in this Thread are wrong, as I often do.
