When consider these two brands, are either of them better by reputation , or are both about the same??

    Gateway VS eMachines

In this case I am referring to a tower and not a laptop.

Go with a gateway. Every e machine i have seen was taken out by the cheap pos power supply. If you do get a e machine replace that power supply with a good one before you even boot it up for the first time.

Go with gateway if something goes wrong with it while it's under warrenty they'll replace it (the part that goes bad, i should know i used to use a gateway pc as my main gaming rig and had problems with one memory stick and they replaced it).

Is there one particular outstanding cost effective online source for power supplies, and other parts?

Last I knew, Gateway and eMachines were owned by the same people.

I'd advise http://3btech.net for your Powersupplies. Much cheaper on similar supplies.

Indeed. Buy a GW, get an eMachine, or visa versa.

Go with www.newegg.com I done alot of orders from them and the one time i had a problem with a dead part they got the rma ball rolling fast and credited me with $15 for my troubles.

If you go with replaceing a e machine psu go with a good brand like. FPS, Silverstone or XClio. They have some budget qualty units and i can personaly vouch for FPS because i only use them in my rigs and even the cheap $45 psu i picked up from them worked like a dream and had rock solid stable rails.

If you need a good review on a psu or more info on the maker of a psu just go to http://www.jonnyguru.com/ Hes got the best psu reviews i have ever seen.
