Strange topic, huh? Well, I had my worst one last night and even though it was drug induced, it scared me to death. Let me explain the 'drug induced' part. I just started a smoking cessation program using the new drug "Chantix," and one of the side effects of this drug is that it can induce nightmares, which it did in my case!! Just alittle more pertainent info before I tell you about it. I drive a Mercedes S500, which is a rather large car, alittle over 17 feet long and weighs almost 3 tons. This car could never fit into my bedroom, except it did last night!!
I crashed about 11:30 P.M. and I awoke during the night to see my car , with it's front wheels resting on the foot board of my bed, smiling at me. However, the wheels were replaced with Swastikas, and Hitler was behing the wheel. I could actually feel the engine heat!! My car was laughing at me, and Hitler has his head out the window saying something in German and, he too, was laughing at me. At that point, my car started to crawl into bed with me, I jumped out of bed and climbed out the window and my car followed me, still laughing and gunning it's engine. I ran into the yard and I fell into a deep hole. At that point, my wife woke me up and asked me why I was yelling, 'get away, get away!!' I told her the truth, that my Mercedes and Hitler was chasing me until I fell into a hole. Well, to make a long story short, she called me an idiot and went back to sleep. I spent the rest of the night watching the Sci-Fi channel.
I know how outlandish that sounds, but it felt so incredibly real to the point where I actually felt the engine heat. So a word of caution to anyone out there that plans on using 'Chantix' and owns a Mercedes....do yourself a favor...trade it for a Ford or Chevy before you start that program!!;)

I've never had a drug induced nightmare. However I've had a couple that scared me.
In one I was sword fighting with someone, (I've never done this) and he stabbed me right in the throat. I woke up right away and felt a scar on my throat. That freaked me even more and I really woke up to find I was ok.
The second one I was dreaming that my kids were spending the night at Gramma's house. They really were that night. In the dream the house caught on fire. I woke up, jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes and drove over to their house and sat outside for half an hour until I was sure there was no fire. Same deal though, my wife thinking I'm an idiot.

I 'spose I have had so many that it is hard to say which one was the worst.

Many years ago I had one were a group of Spanish boys raped my girlfriend. Some of them held me back while the episode took place. At some stage a round object packed in in bandages or perhaps newspaper rolled across the sandy square towards me ... It sort of unpacked itself as it rolled and ... naturally it was my girlfriends head.

I have a recurring one where I take an elevator and just before it gets to the floor where I am going it falls ...... then it starts going up again .. and then falls .... eventually it just carries on falling and I usually seem to wake up.

Another one which I have had is where there is 'something' after me. It doesn't really have a form ....... it's just scary ... so I jump out of bed and turn the light on ..... and when I do the light won't turn on and the 'what ever it is' is behind me .... and then I realise ... at some stage that I am still asleep and haven't actually got out of bed to turn the light on ................ AK ak AK .. I have many .... all the way back to when I was about three or four years old! LOL

I usually have one where I'm in a triangular-shaped fence with no gate; maybe it's the pressure for working for star. :D

In my "younger" days my drug induced nightmares were usually really pleasant!:zzz:drool
Today my nightmares can be a bit disturbing.:zzz:confused
Although the real fear in my life these days comes from reading while wide awake true daily news reports of our society in general!!!!!!:cry

Hmm, Hitler in bed with me?..... I thought I had that dream for 25 years, only to find out it was only my wife! http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g309/Zobor/angrywife-1.gif rolleyes :confused

Sort of a nightmare - My mind is awake, but body is still asleep and can't move. I thought I was going nutz-o for a while, but turned out it was medication induced, too. That's when the Doc. prescribed less potent sleeping pills . I may still be a nut, but at least not in that respect, lol.

I've had that also, Phantom - but not for a long while. Nor was it drug induced. I remember the last time; my wife was awake in bed with me and was talking on the phone (it was early morning). I was later able to recount her entire conversation, even though she swore I was sound asleep and snoaring . . . That's a creepy feeling, not being able to move.

As far as a nightmare goes, I guess the worst one I remember involved waking (in the dream) and going into the living room to investigate a noise. I saw a bunch of small, demon like creatures hopping and leaping about the room - when I turned to go back to the bedroom to get a weapon, they started to jump on my back. The weight caused me to fall to the floor. Then I woke up. Have no idea what brought that one on . . . rolleyes

Worst drug inflicted nightmare was when I had a pneumonia and the nice doctor prescribed morphine based cough medicine in combination with very strong painkillers... Worst part of those nightmares or hallucinations was that I was aware that I was sitting in my bed, I knew my body was there, but I couldn't shake the dreams off me...

I was trying to rub my fingers through my hair to ease off the tension and headache when suddenly the rat that was nesting in my hair bit me in my finger. I was terrified, but there was nothing I could do about it, so I took my hand away and tried to think of something other than the rat. After that, I had wet clammy hands touching my legs, invisible wet clammy hands. Scary. After that I started exploring the city roofs. I was out walking on the tinned roofs, climbing up and down ladders, holding a small plastic bucket and spade, dressed up in yellow rain clothes, with the rain constantly washing down over me and the roofs.

When I woke up, or at least became a little more aware of what was dream and what was reality, I decided to not take those pills together anymore...

Real nightmares not so often anymore. The ones I had when I was younger were deeply disturbing though! *shudder*

Ever read/seen 'Christine' by Stephen King? ;)

Yeah, I have seen 'Christine!' As a matter-of-fact, that's one of my all-time favorite movies. Even though it's not the same, I see now the similarities....Both cars are large, powerful, restored (mine is a 1994) vehicles with homicidial tendicies:) As in 'Christine,' I listen to oldies on the radio all the time, and the only difference I can see is that my car will not 'regenerate' itself after it runs over someone and gets damaged....or will it? I can't really answer that question because I haven't run over anyone....yet!!! And that IS one experience I'm going to avoid at any cost!!

Well, now that I realize that I have the German-made sister of 'Christine,' this would be a good time to give my wife my Christmas list and, hopefully, I won't be disappointed on the 25th!! As you know, these type of 'cars' do not like to have their owners disappointed, and they will go to extreme lengths to keep their owners happy!!

"Honey, here's my list for Christmas!! I really do want that $2,500 radio controlled helicopter I've had my eye on. You will get it for me, won't you? Sure you will!! (manaical laughter fades as Stubby walks away knowing that he'll get his helicopter.....or he'll be single again!!:D)

It does take a bit of getting used to, thankfully I havent been 'blessed' with this state for a while (not drug induced in my case)

@ Shane:- Yes, I studied up a bit on Hag Phenomenon, and some historical consequences in past centuries. Makes you wonder how many people got torched at the stake, either because they experienced the 'Night Hag', or blamed someone else for being the ghosty.

I didn't get the spooky bit, but not being able to move for quite a few minutes, and hearing everything that was going on around me was disconcerting, to say the least.

@ Kestrel:- What a horrid dream! That would get to me more than falling, or savage creatures/monsters, or whatever. Glad you didn't have any more dreams like that one.

I've always had some reallllllly off the wall dreams (just ask kestrel:D) which are always very, very realistic (none of which are drug induced, so I dont have that as an excuseLOL)

One dream I had I was angry with a friend of mine over something she did, the next day when I saw her I had to keep reminding myself that I wasnt really mad at her, cuz it was just a dream!

My scariest dream - I dreamed of how the world will end, I had it about 6 years ago and still remember it very vividly (I had this dream before I was a christian and when I became one and started reading the bible, my dream was in the bible!) still creeps me out...

My nightmares are scared of me now whatever it is I usually beat the crud out of it,as a kid I used to have the fists in slow motion that couldn't hurt a fly really frustrating at the time but as I said don't come wandering into my nightmares now :strong:boxing.

There was one a few nights back where I stabbed someone in throat and killed him, that scared me a bit I thought my life was over I'm going to jail forever but I just rewound time somehow and everything was fine again:D

Heheh... Well, in all honesty, I couldn't really tell you the last time i actually had a dream of any type that I remember. My headshrinker has a name for it, but I can't remember what it is, just that there is one. He said it is most likely due to some of the stuff I have seen over the last 35 yrs mixed with a few other off chemicals floating around in my brain pan that create dreams that my mind blocks from recollection because they are that bad, like a self defense mechanism. *shrug* I know I dream, because my other half has told me that I talk in my sleep and such, but even if I get woken up during one, I can't remember it.

I dunno if it's good or bad, but my headshrinker takes lots of note ;)

Dreams eh? My dreams are usually pretty strange, I wouldn't say random, because there definitely similar dreams.
I had a dream, where string, possibly floss was coiled around my limbs and body, each time I experienced dread, and I was falling down an endless hole, each time it wound itself around me it disconnected pieces of me, the pieces though each had feelings of their own; which were connected to me by the way- it felt quite weird.
Usually the imagery of a dream is not what makes the dream scary, it's pure feeling.
My first scary dream I ran across a pond with lilly pads and one of them devoured me, it was quite scary..
I usually dream about twisting wires and anatomy dives, like the wires crawl in and tear holes and wild biomechanical beings and such, sometimes trippy visions of space during REM sleep stage, then the brain takes off and does whatever. Kinda weird I bet, but... thats only the REM stage of sleep, the imagery may be strange but it's not "a nightmare"

Most of my nightmares had similar characteristics. I always would dream in color, but my nightmares were black and white except for anything that was loud. For example, the crack of a whip from a dark figure, or the roar of a lion. I could visualize the sound, and it was in color above all else. One nightmare that I had a few times when I was really young. I was either in the back yard of my old house, or a rail road switching station. Lions would be chasing me, but my feet felt like cement, and I could barely move. I could hear and see their roars, but I always woke up before they got to me. A second nightmare I used to have involved a black figure off in the distance chasing me. I'd start to get away, then he'd crack his whip, i would see the sound of the crack ripple though my dream. The whip would grab me by the feet, and I would fall, unable to escape. They usually ended there, or I don't remember what happened after that.

Not meaning to get too far off topic, but, does anyone know how best to get rid of nightmares or at least get control of them? My girlfriend has a terrible reoccurring nightmare that wakes her in the middle of the night. She usually starts sobbing in my arms. We talked a long time about it, and it stems from something, someone, she recently became fearful of in real life. She's no longer afraid of this person, but she still has the nightmares. We tried a few things that popped up in Google, like inducing positive thoughts in the dream state, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Are there any tested and true methods that anyone can suggest? Maybe any similar experiences?

If anyone can interpret dreams, this one really needs it.
I used to have a cartoon-like nightmare years ago, that occurred several times. I dreamed that I was being chased by a pack of rattlesnakes that had wheels and they kept biting my butt.
Yes, that little boy became a man and now is in need of some serious help. LOL
    They looked similar to this.

Not being able to escape from inside a machine/factory with stuff moving all over the place and feeling extremely vulnerable. Weird thing is when I get out after a long time, there was a voice just before waking saying 'We're sorry we had to do that to you.' Like a teacher speaking to a student. I've had it a few times but without the comment.

Hmmm, honestly nightmares just don't bother me anymore, I enjoy a good scare or a break from normality whenever it comes. :) When I get a strange, bazaar, or cool, or scary dream I sometimes try to draw whatever I saw, or something similar on paper or on the computer.

In this one, a presence, which isn't me is forcing me to see something I don't want to see.
