My problem is different then the one dyamond posted. My drive will not open...have to use the paperclip. Once I get it open and put a disk in it,it opens and closes properlyand with ease. Any opinions on this one?

Interesting. If you open My Computer, Right click on the drive in question and then click Eject on the menu does it open then?

No it does not. It sounds like it wants to...almost as if something is blocking it from coming open. Don't know what to think. Is it something mechanical in the drive? Other then that the DvD-Rom works great.

Well I've just had a look at a DVD drive that I've got that I'd taken apart and assuming most drives are similar I can see no reason why a disk inside should make any difference. Maybe you should just leave an old disk in there so it always opens when you want it to.

Sorry that's not much help I know.

Does the drive shut itself off when there is no disk?

You mean when the flashing light ceases? Yes it does.
