i was really naughty and sneaked away to another forum yesterday and was amazed at the amount of profanity being used in the post every other word was F******G there was a debate going on that interested me so i registered and made a few posts but found it difficult to reply as the language was intolerable i made one comment that it was not needed to use foul language to make a point and the attack on me was vociferous but these were not kids as with MGs the age of the poster is displayed and many were over 30 years.

another thing i found is that some people on the forum have the ability to change the words that have been posted (i have never seen that here) and give a completely different meaning to what has been said.

it is with great relief that i have got back to a proper forum you don't realize how good MGs is until you see some of the others.

    great job guys

You are right, of the large forums, this one is certainly the nicest I've come across! :)

Well Bill, you saw the profanity and posted there anyways and did ya think you could change their ways? It's too bad that people can't express themselves without having the F word being used ad nauseum, they must have a pre-progammed button to press instead typing it out every time.rolleyes There's lot's of good forums where the occasional expletive is used for emphasis rather than sounding like the Sopranos within the context of a debate.

I haven't been to many other places, a game site I belong to but don't really talk that much go there to play, get asked asl, asl thats annoying. The worst I have ever seen was a discussion forum following yahoo news. I never saw a sensible comment, it was all cussing and bashing looked like mental institution forum. Yahoo shut it down with the excuse of reconstruction. Whew, bad!!!:(
I recommend MG to everyone, even my family.

Ya about questions of A/S/L, really who cares?:confused Maybe pedophiles trolling since it's a game site. As to large sites like Yahoo, I never bother to read the comments because you've got all the idiots posting their 'comments' and no one knows anyone in the least bit. At least here and on similar sites with the same ethos, one has an expectation of rational discourse and with people that one knows.

I think for the purpose of this board, the way it is run is absolutely right.

I do not, however, mind a bit of an edge to a board. With some it gets out of control, I admit, but I actually think they are fun once in a while. There are a lot of humorous people out there. A lot of that is curbed here. Not a bad thing, mind you. Obviously, I'm around alot. Just saying. It's not all bad out there.

I have a bad habit of swearing in closed company. I picked it up in the service and just never made the effort to break it:eek:. Even so I would not make it a point to spell out curse words. It seems silly in print and a child could see it. I guess some one who types really fast could inadvertently curse but I think it takes a consious effort to spell out a swear. It takes a lot of effort on my part just to spell. Maybe I'll learn to use more than one finger. But then you could curse with one finger also;) I really feel safe here at MGs and I too recommend it to my family. Sorry, I still don't know how to quote.

I had a lecturer in Communications many years ago when I was at University, and he accurately stated that cussing is a substitute for thought. Instead of taking time to enter a word that accurately describes and expresses what we are trying to say, we enter a cuss word. We all cuss at some time, let's face it, but I'm with augie. It is a sad state of affairs when on a forum (as opposed to a chat room) where time is available to pre-consider postings, that so much profanity is still prevalent.

i belong to brighthand and resellerratings forums, and although you can edit your posts (change your words), theres not really any abuse at all...in fact, they use the same exact format (vBulletin) as MG, so its really easy to navigate and use!

weird, somehow i always want to spell the word bulletin with an "iten" instead of an "eitn"... oh well
