Software Won't install

Hi, I just bought a Microsoft Lifecam, VX 3000. Everytime i put the disc in to add the software it freezes mt computer and I need to reboot. Does anyone have a solution to this problem.

Is the setup program starting at all? If the setup does not start, see if the CD is damaged. Check if the CD will start in another computer, if you have one available. You can also download the software from Microsoft. Here is the software for the LifeCam that you could try downloading.

 

No, It doesn't even start to download before my computer freezes.

What exactly happens? Does the Installation Disk spin up when you put it in the drive, is the hourglass present, when does it "freeze"?

Hi Steve, I put it in and a green light starts flashing, it should continue to flash until finnished. But it flashes for about 5 seconds and the screen freezes with just the cursor there. No Hourglass. and nothing will right the frozen computer except a reboot.

 

The files config.nt, autoexec.nt might be missing from the System folder (C:\Windows\System32) or one of the files might be invalid. You would normally get the hourglass or an error of some kind, but I would try the steps below, restart the computer and try the installation again.

well, steve it installed the software but the compuyer doesn't recognize the webcam

 

I did what it said and plugged it in when it said, but i got 2 alerts to plug it in.

I looked at the page and the problem may be not all of the other cam was uninstalled. I see some things in the registry with Logitech on them. I'm just a little afraid to fool around in the registry.

 

That could be your best bet, especially if you had a Logitech product installed before.

Did you notice the code 39 or code 19 in the Device Manager like stated in the article?

Yes I noticed the code 39. So i did what it said but it didn't work so now I'll try the other ortion.

Hi, Steve. I tried Fix #1 from the link you provided. It said when it starts to download go to the setup page and click custom and click download drivers only. Well I started downloading and there wasn't anywhere that said set up page. Or is that available after the download. I'm still in the same place.
I tried taking Logitech, out of the registry, And one was associated with Realtech Audio. I didn't know if i could delete that or not.

2. Start the downloaded file, and then click Custom on the Setup Type page.

Yup. After the download finishes just click on the .exe file and start the install, thats when the Custum option will show.

Well, Steve I downloaded it, and started the install, but I right clicked on everything and no set up page came up with no custom install. I uninstalled it with add\remove. But still have the application in my documents. So I can try again.

It "should" just give you a couple of options during the install, usually right at first. Something like Normal or Express or Custom, etc. Or it might be called Setup Type like the article states.

I don't have the page up right now but I think the setup page they are talking about is going to be more of just a window or box. You shouldn't have to do any right-clicking.

OK, I was able to get it.

When you click on the .exe file you should see a very small box, like a strip, that starts installing some files at the very first. Then, a window will open with the "Run" option. Click on "Run" and the next window that opens (the one the article is referring too) gives you the type of install you want, Custom or whatever can't remember. Just click on Custom there.

Another thing you might try if this doesn't work for you, is go to the link below and download CCleaner Slim. It will get rid of alot of old and unused files, it is very safe to use, has a registry cleaner and the members here use it alot.
