Hi guys. I was going through the READ AND RUN ME FIRST items, installed and ran Combofix, and got to step 2: install and run spybot. My computer already had Spybot 1.3, so taking your recommendation, I uninstalled 1.3 and installed 1.5.

Now, when I attempt to run the new version, I get nothing. My cpu spikes to 100% and it will not load. Help!!!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This version is 3 years out of date and not even supported anymore. 1.4 is still supported at this time but who knows for how long.

Do you mean this happens when you just try to start Spybot? Spybot 1.5 does take much longer to startup then even 1.4. Did you allow Teatimer to be installed or did you tell it not to install as we requested?

What is your PC speed and processor type? Also how much RAM do you have?

Thank you!! It's good to be here.

Yes, it happens when I try to start Spybot. I did not allow tea-timer to be installed.

I did eventually get Spybot started, albeit in safemode, it took a while to call up, and I let it scan. It finished, I rebooted, and then my CPU spiked to 100% WITHOUT Spybot even running. After ten minutes or so, my CPU settled down, I rebooted and encountered the same problem. So, I uninstalled Spybot and AVG. But I still have the same problem -- CPU spiking continuously at 100% for five to fifteen minutes at a time. This didn't happen before I installed Spybot 1.5.

ahhhh . . . . . I'm about to out myself as a noob. lol. I don't know my computer speed. How can I tell?

    Processor type: x86, level 6
    RAM: 392,560

You can get the basic info by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties. You will see info about the processor type, speed, and RAM. There are also special tools that can give you tons of info about your system. Tools like these:

    SIV (System Information Viewer)
    EVEREST Free Edition

Your PC is a little low on RAM especially if you are running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista.

I recommend that you complete the below instructions so that we can see if you have any malware issues.
