Have I said how much I hate winter?

Yeah... so anyway, my office is actually the old sun porch on this apartment (mind you, we have the whole second floor, it's huge) and there is no pwer or heat out here. Power I can handle as there is a seperate circuit in the laundry room that this is off of and I runn off of that. THe heat on the other hand is a nightmare. I have to finish weatherproofing the porch (lacking funds atm) and then it will be better, but still no heat out ehre. I have to figure out how to heat it without costing an arm and a leg with the power bill... no ceramic heaters for me.

The only plus is that my rig runs a million times better now because of the ambient cooling effect on it :)

OK, had to get that rant out to keep my fingers limber enough to feel them and type :)

I don't know about where you live Calltaker, but here about the cheapest form of heat for a room would be a Natural Gas/Propane Space heater mounted in the exterior wall. There relatively cheap to buy as well as to operate.

I agree Calltaker but it's where I live. 8F right now and expecting a blizzard to start soon with up to 16" of snow and high winds. Luckily, I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow. I'm going where muskie's wife is going.LOL

Well here in Edmonton it's hovering around -20 Cels. about -2 Fahr. For 2 weeks now. News has it that it’s supposed to be the coldest winter in years. Hey Dan & Darlene do you have any space in your back yard for my Trailer for the next 6 months. If you want i'll fill the freezer full of snowball for you.:D

I have been relegated to the garage since my PC peripherals began to grow the boss (wife) said it was a worms nest, i have heating in here but the insulation is not the best, we have a storm going on at the moment and the temp is 6c so you have my sympathy http://bestsmileys.com/cold/4.gif

    BTW like the new avatar.

Don't worry - when the weather starts heating up for months on end, and I start getting sick with migraines again, I'll be wishing for it to be cold again. Cold, I can rug-up for - heat I just max out, and start feeling sick. People are always telling me we moved to the wrong part of the world, eh. My place has four air conditioners installed for good reasons, LoL! ;) Okay if I'm at home, but travelling around in 38/100+ deg heat really takes it out of me.

It was 75 degrees (24C) in Dallas today.

Then the cold front came in. It is currently 43 degrees (6C).

    Good while it lasted.

Sorry to hear hot weather has such an adverse effect on you...personally I'm solar powered, and love hot weather...thrive on it. Come a cold snap (like Bill_Marsden mentioned and I'm "rugged up with a nose warmer"...hate the cold.

    @ Calltaker
I feel for you and others who have such cold Winters.

What they're forgetting to mention, is that in gray ol' michigan, we had snow in the morning, then rain. All. Day. Long. Then it got cold enough to snow. Which means: Roads are ICY.

    Yay.

We got over a foot of snow yesterday. During this it warmed from -15C (5F) to just above freezing today, and started raining. The snow is still here, but the roads are a sloppy, slippery mess.

I don't know how you folk can live in such a climate...I used to enjoy hitting the ski slopes, but always loved returning home to a warmer climate...couldn't survive living in snow country for a long period or a place that snows in Winter...you must be a hardy lot!

I whole heartedly agree with the hating of winter. You know I wouldn’t mind winter so much if it weren’t so cold. I’d rather much sizzle in 90 deg. temps then to shiver to death. I despise the cold to my very core and no one is allowed to say that other 4 letter curse word (snow) around me :D

Although it was about a very chilly 30 degrees last night, it didn’t stop my friend and I from standing in line at dairy queen to get ice creamLOL

I don't mind the cold, I mind the fact that my house sucks and needs a fresh coat of fire to spruce things up.

The windows and doors haven't sealed right in years and it is not worth trying to make them seal at all.

I like the cold, it makes you appreciate summer. I'd get bored with the same weather all the time.
My house needs windows and doors too. The gas bills suck. Maybe that fresh coat of fire is worth looking into.:innocent

    Sunrise today: 8.30 pm
    Sunset today: 3.30 pm

Almost 10 am, and still quite dark and gloomy. From 2.30 it will start getting a little darker and from 3, it will feel like late evening.

Since it is damp and cold, it is difficult to dress properly, ending up looking like the Micheline guy whenever I have to go out...

    I hate winter too...

At least it is Christmas soon, and that means 2½ weeks of for a teacher! And if we get some snow it will look a little brighter. :)

LOL... thanks all, was afk for abit because of the cold, but figured out that if I close the door between the laundry room and the apartment, the apt stays warm, and I get a slight warming phase into the office, which is offf the laundry room. It sure ain't the tropics, but better that it was.

As I get the funding, I am putting plywood in the windows (between the inside and the porch windows) and sealing wtih that insulating expandable foam stuff. That helps a little, but considering that this was never meant to be a year round area, I guess I can't complain too much.

@ Musk & Mrs Musk... LMAO!! Thanks, I needed a good laugh today.

Mada... I have been considering it as I have the cold environment to keep the temperture down.... LOL

Unfortunately, as I rent, I am a little restricted as to what I can do otherwise though. My landlord does't go for any type of portable heater as they almost lost the place to a faulty one once, so I can't blame them too much there, but otherwise, we get a lot more free reign than most would give. I know, sounds contradictory, but it really does make sense in some wierd Calltaker sort of way....

@ Bill... thanks, I love the product line and use it a lot myself at home. Granted, my bathroom cabinet is full of products... I mean really full... my whole family is getting hair product baskets for Christmas, and I still have a full cabinet... sheesh. :)

I use Window kits such as this one. You just slap on the double-sided tape on your window trim, apply the plastic film and zap it with a hair dryer, almost as clear as the window itself. It's nice to watch the plastic billow when it's windy. The best thing that I've tried so far for ease of use is the film that comes on tubes, very easy installation, ours come in 64"x25' nad quite inexpensive compared to plywood, you can also get outside kits with a thicker film.

Why wish for colder weather? Because we had ninety degree days. But I was hoping for some of those beautifully comfortable fall days. Instead we get snow.

    I'm sorry.

If it helps any, I'm paying for it by having to take a puppy out to pee every half hour or so. Then he decides he just wants to eat it (the snow, that is) :cry
