Vista piracy is down because there are so many Vista keys out there not in use. Most people "downgrade" back to XP. I bet XP piracy is on the rise for as much as Vista piracy is down.

Interesting take on the Vista piracy rate, Burning_Monkey. :D
Anyone else with other opinions? Bazza

Two nearly identical cars next to each other. Which would you steal?

The one with the keys in the ignition?
    or
The one with wheel clamps on all four wheels?

..or another way of looking at it, comparing Vista and XP to cars, the newer (Vista),one that takes 3 parking spaces(12Gb to install isn't that much???), get's 5 mpg(cause of the excess weight, the guys at PC store said it would run on 512MB!), constantly has check Engine lights coming on, Voice that keeps asking you "Are you sure you want to open the Glove Box" and pulls into the Neighbors garage for Auto Repairs.

Or, the older smaller model, (WinXP)that has been rebuilt, stripped down, and added protection of a good Anti-Thief Device (cause the owner knew they needed one), fits into small parking spots and has numerous owner added yummie addons! :) Which would you steal?

Or, hee hee, the sweet looking sports car across the street(Linux) that has a sign on it that says "For Sale by Owner, FREE!" LOL.

I think Burning Monkey may be onto something there tho, lot of my customers have gone back to XP. :)

I can use similar analogies. Which is easier to take, the car that has locks on the door, and is locked, or the car that never had any locks on the doors in the first place?

    Which would you steal?

Of course, we can all be realistic, and realize that XP is well established, being 6 years old, and as such, will be on more warez sites, and have more torrents available.

There is your explaination right there.

Sorry I should have said they are not identical because the car with the clamps has square wheels.

LOL, I work at a Vista site and the most often asked question is how to get rid of Vista, or at least dualboot with XP on their new Vista pre-installed machines!:D I can can understand if their periphs don't have drivers, but it seems to go beyond that.

I personally like Vista, sure there's a learning curve, but it's not that steep at all. Still, Vista had to be way better than XP to get people to switch so MS missed the boat on that one and I would agree, why fix something that ain't broke but we have to move on sooner or later.

The only real good features in Vista is its instantaneous search function instead of waiting for the dog to poop and the security which will probably make the n00bs click happy and therefore negate it's effectiveness. I really don't know what DX10 will bring either besides the other 'under the hood' stuff.

Looked interesting on the Scripps vid as far as DX10 is concerned, even with the BSOD.:D I still love Longhorn 4074, though ATT I thought it was near complete.:(

I never saw a learning curve...of course, I have a heavy Linux background....nothing is hard anymore when it comes to MS :D

I think my only issue with Vista is a lack of 3rd party support. I had Vista for 2 months before I could even use my modem and I still have issues every once in a great while with the video. And Vista update really sucks if you don't do it every day.
