Help with o/s swap

Hey guys, I am trying to reformat a compac presario from vista (original os) to xp pro.However the icon to install xp is not lit? Help please&thank you in advance.

 

You'll have to first wipe your hard drive using a tool such as Darik's Boot and Nuke, since the XP disk will not let you downgrade.

From there, you'll want to Perform a clean install of Windows XP, using the instructions at the link.

From what it sounds like, you are trying to install XP by inserting the install disc while Vista is running, which is inadvisable. The better method is to boot from the CD as described above.

Are you trying to run setup from within vista? Because that won't work. You need to boot from your XP cd and at the very least reformat the partition. Before you do all that though, you should make sure you have all the drivers you need for Xp on hand to avoid future problems..........

 

ok, got the hard disk blanker downloaded & running on the patient, how do I blank the h.d.?
