If you have seen the movie "Amistad" you will appreciate this story.

The voyage of the Amistad was probably the precursor to the American Civil War. Being an Aussie, my opinion is probably wrong. :D

Great movie, great story of this replica voyage. Bazza

Link. Scroll down for the story.

    Hey Bazza

Haven't seen the movie "Amistad", so will keep an eye out as it's the type I enjoy plus given its historical flavour.

I also believe you're spot on the facts too...there was an Englishman around PM Pitt's time (whose name escapes me), who became involved with the change of English laws on slavery around that same period.

Hi, LS. I see you are still up early, or staying up very late each morning. :D

Amistad is a great movie, IMO. I own most movies, and am interested in anything, that relates to Sierra Leone. As I have said elsewhere, I was working in SL during the 1992-2002 ('92-'94 for me) civil war that is covered in the movie Blood Diamonds (starring Leonardo Di Caprio). Also interested in the American Civil war times. My ex has a family tree that goes back to Rutherford. B. Hayes (USA President). Hayes has become a middle of first name in various branches of the family tree. Guess that explains my interest in the US Civil War. Bazza

Thanks for that Baz...sweet of you...now I'm going nutty (more than usual:foolishLOL), trying to think of the name of that Englishman who worked with Pitt towards abolishing slavery...I remember mention of the S Leone slave ship that spurred him on. Gotta see that movie now!

Another one you'd probably enjoy is "The Last King of Scotland". The story is about Idi Amin, Ugandan dictator. Forest Whitaker won the Oscar for his portrayal of Idi Amin. Bazza

A quick look through my DVD collection reveals a few more. Oldies but goodies, which you have probably seen.

Zulu starring Jack Hawkins and Michael Caine.

    Hotel Rwanda starring Nick Nolte

The Man who would be King starring Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Christopher Plummer. (you may have missed this one).

Search for details at www.imdb.com for further info, plot, reviews, etc., on these 3. Bazza
