Thank you so much for helping me. I used the ccleaner, which helped wonders. I did the find the hinden instructions, but they will not show up. I actually liked xp when I had it. New is not always better. I wish Microsoft when bringing out a new windows would wait a couple of years just to get the bugs and kinks out, than release it,lol. End of January I will be having my computer fixed/cleaned by Geek squad any way. But I really do appreciate the help or any help I can get. More Help is welcomed though!!! Thanx ~~April

I'm not sure what you are trying to tell me. If you still need help, you must follow ALL of the instructions in the READ & RUN ME link from beginning to end and in the order written. And then if still having a problem, attach the logs that are requested.

There is no such thing. There is no absolutely perfect solution for protecting you from malware; however the most important piece of protection is the by educating the users of the PC to understand safer surfing habits. The below with give you some good information on keeping your protected.

How to Protect yourself from malware!

Chas, your correct, messenger service is not part of Vista at all, April could you post a screenshot of the popup message you have? *@Chas - only posted as I would like to see what this internal popup is in Vista*

in XP the Messenger Service was turned off by default by installing Service Pack 2, if last year you were upto date in Windows XP then you wouldnt have needed anyone to manually disable the service.

Vista is like all other OS versions, in that it will have bugs and kinks, XP is no different hence 2 Service Packs and a forthcoming 3rd one next year.

Aconti malware is a Dialer IIRC, and you will need to follow Chaslangs link to the READ ME for him to assist in cleaning.

They just want your money! We are professionals and have been doing this for longer than Geek Squad has been in existence. Our procedures have been run without problems on tens of thousands of PCs, and they are proven procedures that work in removing malware. We have a staff of people volunteering their time here that includes 6 or 7 Microsoft Most Valueable Professionals. If you don't know what that is then read this: http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/

And by the way you never followed our procedures properly. If you did, you would have completed the steps as instructed and attached the requested logs if you were still having problems. If no logs are attached and you were having problems, that means you did not complete the procedure because attaching the logs is part of procedure. We cannot help you if you refuse to follow instructions.

I followed all of your directions, and understood every one. The member who did fix my computer is 55 year old man and is a friend of mine. He is way experienced in Pc and with all versions of windows and such. Do not get mad at me because of what I was told. I am sure you are an proffessional as you say you are. Your instructions where direct and I followed them step by step, and Understood them. Just because I do not have a computer degree, but a degree in criminal justice/Nursing , does not mean I am not knowledgeable about computers or following your directions. I have read alot of your posts and found them quite helpful and others on this site. Also my recent post was not to affend, but it was what I was told, and also warned about hackers aswell. So don't mad at me, but be mad at geek squad. Thanks for all your help!!!

Nobody is angry, we are just aware of the BS that Geek Squad spreads. Their software knowledge is severely limited, and more often than not, will end up in them telling you must reinstall your OS, when that is not the case.

Chas is warning you; Geek Squad is out for the money, not for the customer. What we do here is purely out of charity. Friend or not, if someone is telling you that Chas's guide will screw up your computer; then it is very telling of their knowledge of Windows....well, lack thereof. I can tell you right now I have been using Chas's guide since I was doing Microsoft support, and being MS support, we used and reccomended his advice. It never once caused us problems.

But you did not complete the instructions which clearly stated that you must attach the logs from running the procedure. Without the logs we cannot see what it going on with your PC.

As Adrynalyne stated, we are not angry. We are just stating the facts. You never completed the instructions because you never attached your logs. And I can guarantee you that we fix more PCs in one day that Geek Squad fixes all week and we do it for free. And in additon we do a comprehensive malware cleaning, and we also do other steps that are not malware related that will help improve a PCs performance.

I followed every instruction you gave at the time you gave it sir, and yet it still was coming thru. Maybe it was deeper than that of your instructions, but now it is no more. Your reccomendation on the ccleaner was praised by geeks squad, and was actually kept on my system after they had cleaned my laptop. It also made my computer run faster. So the question is, How offen should I run the ccleaner? Once a week like the defragmenter or everyday? Also is pen-cillian anti virus a good program? Should I go with norton or macafee? I had macafee and actually like the security and protection of the program, but on the other hand I am way use to Norton and have it on my desktop. Also what about the Gimp? Are there any other free programs that are safe that would do the same thing to pixs and text animation and beyond
that I can download? Not going to leave this site just because I got my laptop cleaned by geeks. I actually like some of the programs on this site.

You seem to missin the point of what we have been saying. The READ ME states the below:
You did not attach the logs. Thus you did not follow the instructions. Thus, we could not help since you did not follow instructions. You can keep saying you followed the instructions as much as you want but you did not do what was requested. If you had then we could have helped you resolve any problems that you may have had.

One a week is fine unless you do tons of surfing. Then I would do it more frequently.

All 3 programs are considered "good" quality programs. It is just a matter of how much you wish to spend and how much of your system resources you wish to give up to these programs to run. If you install them, especially security suites, they will slow your PC down quite a bit. This is one of the main reasons many people do not recommend using these programs. The free tools available actually work quite well, do not cause such dramatic slow downs, and are less prone to being broken by malware or getting broken by themselves. In addition, uninstall McAfee and Symantec can be as difficult to do as removing malware.

If you like McAfee or Symantec then stick with them since personal preference can be important to people. As long as you do not find their cost and their performance to be an issue then they should be fine for you.

This is actually a question better address in the Software Forum; however you can check out all of the software offered in the below download folder at Major Geeks.

I do not have a problem with my computer any more since geeks fixed it. This is the most unfriendly site I have ever been thru and want to cancel my account. No more replys to this post please. Obvisously no one understands. Case closed!

And you would not have had a problem if you had followed our instructions but obviously that was too much too ask.

Sorry that you think we are unfriendly. I answered all of your questions and I did it for free and on my own time. I guess that makes me unfriendly.

We tried to give you help but all you kept saying is that you followed the instructions when it is very clear that you did not complete them. It is so simple. Run the steps AND ATTACH THE LOGS. If logs are not attached, you did not complete the instructions and there is no sense in posting a request for help because we are going to ask you for the logs. We don't have hands on access to your PC to see what is going on. We don't have that technology yet. The logs are our access.

The inability to understand is at your end of the connection. Sorry to be blunt, but the facts in the messages in this thread speak for themselves and everyone can read them and see that you refused to cooperate.
