Disk Drives

Hey..... Ihave a serious problem.

I recently took apart my computer and cleaned out the case,And i mean everything. (the dust was like snow!). But now i feel like an idiot, b/c i went to fire up my computer, and the dvd-rom AND the cd-rom did not recognize. So, i went into my boot setup, and it said the cd rom group was not installed!? . However, i am getting power to the drives, because i can insert a disk while the system is running, but it doesent even recognize that the drives are installed. What do i do? Is something in the Boot Setup wrong? my disk drives are the only malfunction.

 

Assuming that you have IDE drives and not SATA drives, verify that they are plugged into the correct position. The drive that has it's jumper set as 'Master' will need to be at the end of the cable. The drive that has it's jumper set as 'Slave' will need to be in the middle of the cable. Also double check that all 3 connectors on the cable are firmly seated in the drives and motherboard.

If none of that helps, try a different cable.

 

Hmmm......now that i've had a look at the jumpers......i do believe the slave jumper might just be connected to Disk drive, how exactly can i tell the difference? between to two? I have two IDE drives, with a SATA hard disk

 

I'm not sure what you're asking here, but have a look at this website for some info on how to install ide drives. They are using hard drives, but the process is the same.
